"I am a widow of 55. I have a gas weedeater, and
it is very hard for me to try and start it. I saw
this cordless weedeater online and thought hay,
this is what I need. I bought it and it is so easy
to use. Just charge the batterys and you are ready
to go. I am very pleased with it. I used it today
and it worked great. It will do a small yard. I did my dog pen and front yard, and still have power in one battery. I own several Black and Decker 18V power tools and they all are good buys.

Awful battery life, June 30, 2009
By Gardenmom from Quakertown, PA

"Great features, terrible battery life.
Even with two fully-charged batteries, I couldn't finish the job done in one day.
I'm not talking heavy brush, I'm talking about a well-groomed, twin-house property in a development that needs edging at curbside and trimming around the garden beds, rear patio and two trees.
Don't waste your money or time on this.

Grasshog, June 26, 2009
By vcw39 from North East GA

"Traded in a new Sears 18 volt line trimmer for the Black and Decker Grasshog because the Sears trimmer had a battery charger problem. Charged the batteries, started using it and found it to be quieter, more powerful, and ran longer on a battery charge than the Sears model did. The 8-9 hour battery charge is not a problem with the 2 batteries provided. The automatic line advancement works well and uses less line than the Sears unit."

Easy to use...Not for lots of edging use, June 22, 2009
By Koobiiskoobii from Charlotte, NC

"Like everyone else, I was reserved about buying this product as my gas trimmer just broke down after 5 years. Again, like most people, I wanted something that is environmentally friendly, so as this unit was on sale for Father's day, my wife bougth it for me. On a full charge battery, I timed it for full 17 mins of full use to edge my corner lot. Of course, it didn't finish the job without replacing the 2nd battery. That lasted about 15 mins. Yard is not finished. The next day, I just used it to just trim around the post, fence, under brush and the like, the fully charge battery has no problem trimming all on a .18 ac corner lot. Now my edging is not complete as yet. At this rate, I think you will need about 4 fully charged batter to finish the job because edging take a lot more power to do the job so it drained more out of the battery. I think that this unit is very good and very easy to use due to its light weight but you need to know what you are planning to use it for. I had it for only 2 days but so far I think I will keep it unless it break in the next week or so. For the benefit of environmentally friendly, it is worth it for me as I can wait for the battery to charge to finish edging my lawn."

wonderful, May 22, 2009
By nanatothree from Cincinnati, Ohio

"I was worried that this would not work, over the years I have spent a lot of money on corded weedeaters. They were always hard to handle plus it was a pain to add more line. This one is GREAT. Light weight and soooo easy to use, practically runs itself. And the battery lasts long enough for the whole yard. I would highly recommend this product (and I do) to everyone!!"

Good power and light, April 23, 2009
By Clearbluelou from Nashville, TN

"I've only had the trimmer for about a month but, so far, I am quite happy with it. I have about 1/3 of an acre and one battery is plenty. In fact, if I rush, I can actually get two trimmings, a week apart, out of one charge. I was a little worried about how strong it would be but it has happily cut through even some vine-like weeds with no problem."

Does What it Needs To Do, December 19, 2008
By Plntrs from Orlando, FL

"I have to admit, I was very skeptical about getting a battery powered trimmer. I used to borrow my father-in-laws convertible gas line trimmer/edger. But would get so frustrated when it wouldn't start on the first try or the second, or the 3rd, always needing several pulls to start. With that said, I still went out and purchased a BRAND NEW gas trimmer, and after the first few uses, I noticed that it would never start on the first pull.

Frustrated, I brought it back and decided to go with this and the 18V blower. I haven't looked back since. Starts every time and the battery lasts long enough to go around my whole house. Sure it's a pain to remember to charge the battery a full 8 hours before you plan on using it. But at least you know it will start every time. The automatic feeding system is awesome, so you never have to press anything to get more line. I have to admit it works very well. Although, the edger doesn't work for my grass. I have St. Augustine grass which is just too thick to get a good edge. I have approx 2000 sq. ft house and it does the job. I would definately recommend.

VERY PLEASED, November 30, 2008
By HogHaulers from Port St. Lucie, Florida

"I previously had the 12 volt gras hog unfortunately it was a bit too light weight for my taste. I have since upgraded to the 18 volt Grass Hog and I am so happy with the performance of this machine I now have six of the 18 volt cordless tools. The Fire Storm line uses the same batteries. There is also an 18 volt Dust buster."

Batteries Required, August 26, 2008

"I really like this trimmer. I used it to cut the grass too! However, it requires extra batteries if you are doing a larger project. So, I am looking to purchase an extra battery and charger!"

Awsome, June 13, 2008
By JAAR from CO

"This thing has the power to cut through suckers from a cotton tree. I was impressed by the power and battery life. There is never any tuning required, no exhaust to choke you out, and its quiet.

Great buy! And comes with two batteries.

Surprisingly Good, May 27, 2008
By penman from Minneapolis

"After spending another 2 hours trying to get my 2 stroke Toro trimmer started (unsucessfully), I decided to take a leap of faith and buy a cordless trimmer.

Lot's of good reviews on the B&D GrassHog, so I bought one.
In a word - amazing.

Easy to assemble, light, and plenty powerful for 'standard' grass trimming and edging.

After (a long 9 hour) charging, the first battery lasted for about 25 minutes of non-stop work. Plenty to edge and trim my whole yard.

The self-feeding mechanism worked fairly well, but I did have to turn the unit over and manually feed out the line a couple of times when the GrassHog seemed to delay the self-advance feature.

The battery charging seems rather long, but with one extra, most people won't exhaust both during one trimming session IMO.

All in all - 5 stars. (saving me the frustration of never trying to start a seldom used 2 stroke gas trimmer is worth 3 stars just by itself).

Cordless or bust :)

"I have had my cordless grasshog for six months now. I love it. I have back problems, but this is such a lightweight unit that even I can use it. It is best to have two batteries though. I have a large yard and it uses the entire battery to complete the yard but I always have a spare on hand if I want to do more (I have 40 acres). I would recommend this unit to anyone. It is well worth the price. I have just now run out of line and need to buy more."

"i was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the machine itself and the quality of the work that i performed with it - the weed eater is very light weight yet durable - in my experience it cut both grass and tougher weeds very well - the battery did not weaken quickly - but, in case you have a large yard...the extra battery provided will be a life saver -"

"I was looking for something that would meet my needs, and this grasshog unit exceeded my expectations. I didnt' want to exceed $110 so this unit definitely stood out. The first thing I noticed was how light it was. No strain on the arms or shoulder, so light that one of the kids that offered to cut my yard used it and did a GREAT job! I was a little bit worried about how long the battery would last, and for the most part, if you're not always on the trigger you can pretty much do everything in one charge. B&D includes two batteries, so you can always get the other one. I was used to gas weed eaters, and this unit just felt underpowered. It only goes one speed. I suppose the best description would be like driving a hybrid vehicle versus a Dodge charger with a Hemi. Both cars will get you where you need to go; so in the end, this unit does the job and does it well. I've used it at least 6 times, and I have yet to change the spool and I haven't had any problems with the line like I do the gas powered units. My wife even used it and SHE liked it! Overall, if you don't want the hassle of refueling or smoke or the unit being heavy, THIS is the way to go."

"I recently purchased the Grasshog cordless trimmer for home use in my yard. I was previously using my grandpa's old electric trimmer which was literally falling apart (I had to duct-tape the electrical cord to the trimmer!). What a difference! The Grasshog's battery life per use is more than enough to cover my entire yard. It is very lightweight and easy to handle, but tough enough to take care of even the thickest of weeds. I am very pleased with the Grasshog and would recommend it to anyone!"
