quality product, October 5, 2009

"this is a well built machine. it took a while to put together due to a lot of parts but was fairly straight forward. it pulled out good sized plugs using a slow speed and well watered lawn. it is a good value if you are looking for an aerator"

Texas, July 17, 2009
By BigTexan from Fairfield, Texas

"I would recommend using sockets and ratcheting wrenches to assemble this product. Manual says use wrenches only but assembly would be slow without sockets and ratcheting wrenches. Not difficult to assemble, took about 1.5 hours. The areator works extremely well but take your time and go slow. I used a lawn sweeper with a dethatcher attached and then the areator then feertilized. Lawn looks fantastic."

"This aerator worked like a charm. I used it after a rainy few days and it made nice deep holes. I had 3 cinder blocks on it. I haven't found anything negative about it."

NOT A BAD AERATOR. GO OUT AND GET YOURSELF ONE, April 1, 2009
By weekendwarrier from Avon Lake, OH

"Over all I have to give this thing 5 stars. I bought mine boxed and it was not that difficult to put together. It took about an hour. The one thing I was concerned about that no one mentioned in any other reviews or on the video online was how well did it hold up turning. It turns out I had no problems. I pulled it behind my zero turn mower. I do think it is best to use earily spring or late fall when the ground is nice and soft obviously. I had 2 tube sand bags from my truck on top of it. I think the main thing to remember is you dont need to go fast. take it slow and steady. It says it is commercial quality but even commercial equipment isnt meant to be thought of as indistructive. I still didnt make any 90 degree turns when I came to the end of my yard. make it a 3 or 4 point turn. This way there will be minimum stress on the tines. I guess my only complaint would be since it is a once and done until the end of the season piece of equipment, I would like to see grease fittingsfor the axel on the tines. I know I am probably a little too meticulus, but all of my other equipment gets a hose down and regrease after every use. For the price, if I get 2 or 3 seasons with a spring and fall pull out of it I will be satisfied and buy another one. So go out and get one, and remember slow and steady, watch tree roots (go over them slowly), sprinkeler heads, in ground dog fences, and tight turns, clean it up when your done, try to spray some white lithium grease on the tine axel and it should last a while."

Unhappy with purchase!, March 21, 2009
By MOWPRO from Hays, KS

"Purchased this aerator in hopes that it would save me from having to rent aerators on a yearly basis as I own a local lawn service. Purchased on sale for $159.88 at my local Sears store. This item appeared to be very sturdy and built well. So I purchased it. No matter how much weight I put on it, I could not get plugs to be any more than half inch max plugs. This after watering yard and adding 180 lbs at one point. It was hard to even tell that the yard had been aerated. I will be returning to Sears tomorrow. Not a happy customer!! Next time I will try it before buying it!"

pluggin right along, February 25, 2009
By TXmower from land of the alamo, tx

"Picked up this aerator last year and have used it twice so far. It was fairly straight forward for the assembly, being careful not to slice myself open on the sharp coring spikes.

I had to try a few different things to get the weight right to hold this down. I used a few rubber cargo straps to hold down free weights and switched over to few cement blocks (patio pavers). My TX "dirt" is really a combination of things with limestone underneath and clay mixed in. When it is dry, it is one of the hardest surfaces to penetrate. I made sure the yard was watered a few hours before I attempted to give it a go and things went fine. I have a lot of inground sprinkler heads and pumps/covers to avoid. Even when riding over pump covers, this device didn't damage them. Just got to be careful. The plugs were about 1-1 1/2 long which was fine. Maybe watering a couple days in a row might allow for deeper cores, but not necessary.

Like everyone else, I have to wrestle with the lift handle in order to raise and lower the wheels. Using the handle while seated on my tractor for lowering the unit to engage the yard is a lot easier than trying to raise it. Usually I had to hope off and pull up the handle. Definitely room for improvement there. Tires have not lost their seal yet with the rims and just needed to add air and lube a couple places and it was ready to use in the fall just like it was in the spring.

Impressed, October 31, 2008
By Stan1 from Pittsburgh, Pa.

"I recently purchased while on sale. Assembley was as expected; no problems or concerns. I used the aerator yesterday and was VERY pleased. The plugs were thumb size and about 2" deep. As mentioned, the handle for engaging the aerator is less than perfect. I had to get off my tractor to disengage it so I could cross my driveway. Not a really problem. I used two 50lb bags of sand for added weight. I could see how cement blocks would shift as there is no tie down. The sand bags worked great. I'm very pleased in the unit and the job it has done. It will pay for it self in three uses."

So far so good..., October 23, 2008
By JayCOhh from Connecticut

"Purchased this aerator for $150 after the fertilizer company wanted nearly $200 to aerate my yard. Took less than an hour to put together, and worked very well, pulling out about 1 inch plugs. I finished a one acre yard in less than an hour. The only hard part is raising the aerator onto the wheels while remaining seated on the mower (like when I had to cross my driveway)."

Heavy Duty Parts, October 8, 2008
By WWayne from Rose Hill KS

"It took about two hours to put the aerator together; all the parts were there and fit together fine. All the major parts are made very well and appear to be engineered with strength in mind. Today, one day after a rain, I secured four old car batteries to the tray and began aerating my half acre city lot. I have lots of clay, and some is compacted. The aerator performed very well, and pulled out one to two inch plugs. I think it would have sunk in more had the ground been saturated. I towed this unit with my garden tractor and didn't encounter any problems. Only advice would be to lengthen the raise/lower lever; I have long arms and was barely able to reach it when in the down position. I ran it in two different directions and got very good coverage; plan to operate it Spring and Fall, but only after I'm sure the ground is fully saturated."

good value, assembly issues, April 7, 2008
By ericmichiganman from Michigan

"After taking a few hours to assemble this (diagrams weren't exact, some shown were actually backwards), I went to use it and one of the tires came out of the box flat. Tried to fill it back up, but it's blown, have to get a replacement part first. Bought this on clearance at Sears last week for $20!!"

Get A Handle On It, November 7, 2007
By Earth from Tuftonboro, NH

"I am writing this to say I join the chorus of satisfied users. This aerator truly works very well. I agree, the handle will probably be awkward for most people. The good news - you can get creative and add an extension to the handle that will suit your personal body mechanics. I've done this on my tiller and this aerator. It makes using this that much better. Enjoy!"

Works As It Should, September 30, 2007
By ycaguirre from Homer Glen, IL

"The whole process of purchase and use was painless. I caught the last day of the sale for this item and purchased on-line; picked up at the store the next day; brought it home and put it together; instructions were adequate (added a light multi-purpose lithium grease to rotating parts). After sprinkling the lawn just ahead of my work area to soften the soil, proceded to use. Unit worked flawlessly. and did its job. Advice to others: ensure soil is soft (by watering before hand, if necessary) and weigh down the unit with at least 100# , and you can't go wrong. I picked this model over others because you can raise & lower the tines from the driver's seat of your tractor. Don't forget to clean the tines when finished!"

Product performs well, May 16, 2007
By TN1946 from TN

"I recently bought my Craftsman core areator and am well pleased with it. I did the assembly by myself per the instructions and every part was there and went together per the instructions. I loaded it up with 5 cement blocks and went at it. It pulled plugs from 1" to 3" depending on the hardness of the soil. It pulled easily even with the load on. I'm sure my neighbors will be borrowing it spring and fall. The only thing I didn't like was that no straps or tie downs for the load were provided with the product and the holes provided to attach your own were not adequate ( not enough ) ."

Does a nice job, could be a bit easier to use, May 14, 2007
By BostonLawnBoy from Boston

"I assembled and used this aerator last weekend, and I am very happy with my purchase.

Assembly was what I expected - reasonably clear instructions and parts that fit together well. The instructions call for using just wrenches to put everything together, which will take you a bit of time. I used my cordless impact driver instead, which spun the nylon lock nuts on much faster than I could do it by hand. I spent about 35 minutes on assembly along with my 4 year old "helper".

The plugs this thing pulled out were nice and deep. I got a bit lucky on the timing with an overnight rain shower to moisten the soil a bit, which I'm sure helped. I used it with about 100 pounds of weight, but I think I could have used less based on how well it did.

My only complaint is with the lever to raise and lower it. It is short and you have to reach way back to get to it. I could just manage to lower this, but to raise it back up, I had to get off of the tractor. A longer handle, more like most dethatchers, would solve this. But on a positive note, because the handle is short, I was able to keep the bagger on my tractor while using this, which I can't do with a dethatcher.

Plugger Aerator is the only way to go., May 5, 2007
By cfwolnia from WI

"This is a good plug aerator. I am very pleased. It is awkward to raise or lower as another reviewer mentioned. I have to get off my tractor to raise or lower the unit. I believe I would have to do this even with more expensive models. If you take care of it, I expect it to last 20 years or more."
