XCargo A Go Go,September 7, 2009
By CampingLitefrom Perry Hall, MD
"This is my second X-Cargo unit (lost the first one in a divorce!) Excellent product, even better than the first one. Holds a ton, rides quiet, stays dry and is easy to load from the rear of our Jeep Liberty.
We have recently gone Super Green with our camping, switching from a pop-up to car camping and this is a key piece of the plan. Now I can enjoy the camping life-style (beautiful parks and wonderful people) without the gas, maintenance and towing issues that came with the pop-up. For an (almost) retired couple, this is the life! Leaves the rear hitch free for our bike rack, too!
One assembly note - our unit had a bad thumb nut - used to secure the unit to the luggage rack (you will need a rack with cross rails.) During our assembly in the parking lot during a rain storm, this one thumb nut would not thread up. John, the Sears mechanic graciously removed the offending stubborn piece of plastic flash in the thumb nut with a screwdriver in about 30 minutes! Without this delay we would have gone from box to back-on-the-road in about 20 minutes.
Still, all worked out well! BTW - Sold our skinny little, over priced, big-name box on a local listserv and got a real workhorse this time! NOTE - make sure to put something on your dash or steering wheel to remind you that the little turtle is up there when entering underground parking garages! ;-)"

Solid Performance: XCargo Sport 20,August 6, 2009
By SearsCustomer72745from North West Arkansas
"After searching and considering many carrier rewiews, I purchased the X-Cargo Sport 20 Car Top carrier for a summer travel trip.
The X-Cargo I believe was a good value, solid performance, ease of use, spacious, and provides travel confidence.
Instructions/Pictures a breeze. Easy to install my yourself, but for balance, an extra hand is appreciated. Adjust roof rack cross bars. Set X-Cargo Sport 20 on top. Adjust and center. Slide u-bolts under cross bars (can use padding to keep from scratching) with box plates and screw down tight with wing-nuts. Cover remaining bolt holes with plastic strips. Load (watch your weight limits- it's large), close and lock, and you are ready to go.
Traveled Hi-way speeds of 70-75 mph without any noticeable drag or miles per gallon difference. You can forget that it's up there. Even after 7-8 hours of solid rain, contents stayed dry. Have SUV and can stand on the back bumper and get things in and out easily.
PS. One unusual circumstance. While starting down Pikes Peak (14,000+ ft) we came to a ridge where the wind and clouds were coming up one side and over. When I got there the wind pushed up on our car (under current) shook our car and the car top carrier popped open. Only a loose sleeping bag, that we had layed across the top to keep things snug, escaped which we quickly retrieved. We closed and locked again without any other incidents in our 2000 mile trip.
The X-Cargo Car Top Carrier was our trip extender from a week of hotels, to camping to the fullest. It worked great!
Purchased for occassional use, I see this lasting for years to come. Two Thumbs up!"

Not Sexy, but it works!,August 5, 2009
By DadofIVfrom Deep South, USA
"We were in need of a roof carrier for a week long trip to PA (12 hours and 4 kids)in the Van. Looked and priced everything available. While not the sexiest carrier (C'mon, how sexy can a roof carrier be?) it did suit our needs the best. The price was un-beatable, add that to the immense space (compared to the others)and I was sold. Lots of room, and NO Leaks during the miles of torrential rain we drove through. It took a while to prepare a place to store it in the garage, but all in all, this carrier is a great buy that I don't see how we've done w/out all these years!"

Very Happy,August 3, 2009
By Calidriverfrom Stockton CA
"I picked this up just days before our trip from Stockton to San Diego, when I realized the Thule duffle bag was going to be too small. Yes paid a bit more, but not nearly as much as other styles/brands. Our SUV seats 7, and we were full, so it accomodated our bags and even a stroller. It seems in to be in fine condition after our trip. Easy to use/install. I do agree its a bit high on the car, but still well worth the money."

Sears X-Cargo Sport 20,August 1, 2009
By codofrom Bloomington, IN
"Very unsatisfied with product quality. Owned less than three weeks and it's shattered around both front mounts. I purchased before a 3000+ mile road trip. 1000 miles later the carrier is shattered around both front mounts. Luckily, it stayed attached to the rack the remainder of the trip and fly off. I was quite happy with the cargo space, and initially very happy with the carrier... until it broke with 1000 miles of use less than 2 weeks after purchase. I'm seeking a refund."

Excellent,July 24, 2009
By IndyTravellerfrom Philadelphia
"Bought this cargo carrier for a family trip from Philadelphia to Indianapolis. It held everything we needed and still left a bit of room for stuff we bought along the way. For the price, it is the best value out there. You don't need to spend lots more for a fancy (or funny) name brand. This one fit perfectly on my Subaru Outback's stock roofrack. There are 2 reasons I gave it 4 stars rather than 5:
1) the lid tends to flex quite a bit when opening, making it difficult, if not impossible to easily open from the side. You really have to open it from the back center, which is quite a stretch if you're vertically challenged like me.
2) this is a nice to have, not a need to have, but it would be great to have a latch or some other locking system on each side, in addition to the one at the back. The single lock at the back works fine, but if someone really wants to break into the carrier when your car is parked in the lot of a motel somewhere, it is pretty easy to pry open the carrier lid from the side. (I solved this problem by drilling a 3/8 inch hole in the lip of the carrier on both sides and fashioning a simple pad locking system).
Overall, I highly recommend this rooftop carrier to anyone planning on hauling the family cross country! Love it!"

Stop No need to look any further,July 21, 2009
By mes321from Saginaw, MI
"This is it. I have owned my Sears roof top carrier for several years. It has made numerous trips to Florida, New York and the Carolina's. It has performed well on every trip. I have only noticed minor MPG changes while using it. You will reach the 100lb capacity before you fill this one. I would recommend this carrier to anyone who has kids and a roof rack to put it on. It has saved me several times in getting everything I need to take."

"I consider these to be the best value in a car top carrier. I just just got back from a 5000 mile car camping trip with 2 of these on top of my SUV. You just won't believe how much stuff will fit into them."

it does the trick...,July 16, 2009
By goatwingsfrom Elizabethtown, PA
"bought this carrier, have filled it to the brim twice, and have no complaints that would cause me to advise against purchasing it. yes it's big, and you won't look very cool driving with it attached to your roof, but it gets the job done. i will say this though... i attached it to a Pontiac Vibe, which does not have a full-length roof rack due to the sunroof. as such, I was not able to position the front attaching brace in the front-most set of holes on the carrier. this meant that when I drove, the thing shook up and down like crazy, and i was afraid it was going to tear off of my roof. so i took a slim piece of wood cut to the width of the carrier, surrounded it with soft memory foam (stapled), and placed it on the roof near the front of the carrier. then mounted the carrier, which pulled it tight on the wood so it would not slide out. this worked perfectly - it broke the wind from sliding beneath the carrier and pulling it up. drove from PA to NC and back with zero problems.
so again, you may only experience this if your vehicle has a roof rack that is not the full length of the roof. i was initially irritated with the fact that i had to come up with a rig job, since the Pontiac Vibe is a vehicle that the compatability book said it should work with. all of that aside, it gives you plenty of space for a good price relative to the other carriers on the market."

Boy is this thing big (that's good),May 29, 2009
By SomeGuyInAVolvofrom Sewickley PA
"When shopping for a roof cargo box, it took me a while to decide how big was big enough. I originally thought an 11 cu ft box would have been plenty for my family week-long vacation, but when I saw one it was obviously too small (and actually cost more). This box, on the other hand, is REALLY big. I don't think overwhelmingly so to the detriment of usability or driveability of the car it is attached to, but it's just big. One bit if interest, is that I searched high and low for a low-price cargo box--and I always ended up looking at an 18 cu ft box from a manufacturer called "Sportrack". Lo and behold, in the booklet that came with this box, it also is manufactured by Sportrack. Oddly, the 18 cu ft Sportrack box retails for about $250; it is also sold at Pep Boys under the name Voyager (but says "By Sportrack" on the side) and costs $200 as well. So for cu ft for your dollar, it seems that the Sears/Sportrack box is probably the best deal. Forget those Thule and Yakima boxes. I'm not sure why they command such a high price as they're all made of the same ABS black plastic. I considered buying the "cooler" looking 16 cu ft box (x-treme model) but then I realized that having a "cool" roof cargo box is a bit silly as they're all a bit dorky to begin with and hardly worth the $100 premium. All that aside, it's a nice box that will hold a LOT of gear."

HAVE DOGS/ LOVE IT FOR MY SUBARU!,April 23, 2009
By DOGSHOWGOERfrom Portland, Maine
"It fits my 2003 Subaru Forester perfectly. I was initially concerned that it may be too big. I traveled to two different dog shows recently (1000 miles+) with 2 people, 4 dogs, 8 crates, chairs and luggage. I must say I do not know how I managed before I had the X-Cargo Sport! The only water that entered the carrier was the rain that poured down from the sky on it when I opened it up to get the gear out. I researched multiple other brands and compared storage room/ quality/ price. I am very pleased with my reasonably priced, quiet, and roomy storage carrier."

Excellent,April 3, 2009
By REMorganfrom Humble, Texas
"The only two recommendations are: There should be an instruction sheet with the product or on the web....neither were available....I had no water problems, mainly because I used black silicone to patch the extra holes and then used the patches.
Great carrier, especially with kids and the extra room is needed. It rides so smooth, you forget it's attached to the roof. But REMEMBER, because parking garages are lower then the carrier...so, measure the top of the carries to the road surface and place a note in a obvious location."

Works on my 2007 Sienna,March 31, 2009

"I've had it for almost two years now with three trips from San Jose, Ca to Las Vegas, NV (9hr trip) with no problem. Cargo is pretty big compare to the other expensive name brands. Cant feel any wind turbulance. I would definitely recommend to anyone. But this cargo may not be ideal for cars such as Subaru or CRV etc..."

excellent product,March 31, 2009
By superroadtripperfrom Plano, TX
"I am delighted with the rooftop carrier. I used it on four 5000-mile roadtrips with my family where we packed a ton of stuff into the carrier. I have even learned how to install and remove the carrier myself without any help (by balancing it on my head as it step up a stepstool to mount it on the top of my Honda Pilot or Odyssey. The only negative is that it mounts in the center of my car's roof and I have to use a stepstool (I carry a folding one w/ me on roadtrips) and then lean over the back of the car just to be able to unload it."

From GA to AK,March 23, 2009
By Mattie27from Anchorage, Alaska
"My wife and I drove from Warner Robins GA to Anchorage AK with one of these on our 2004 Rav4. It was more expensive 4 years ago and made a little bit of noise but all in all was great for our trip. It cut our fuel economy down a little but was well worth the space it saved in the car. I would reccomend this or fpr more fuel efficiency the longer x-treme model. We were pleased with it."

"This is a great carrier. I purchased it and had it attached to my Dodge Grand Caravan in just a few minutes. Haven't had any problems, and I took an epic roadtrip from Mass. down to Florida and back! It had plenty of space, didn't make any noise, and let in just a very small amount of water - not enough to be a concern. Just had to watch out when driving into parking garages..."

Great,December 27, 2008
By Jereamyfrom Va.
"The x-cargo Sport 20 is a great roomy cargo carrier! I purchased it for my 08 Nissan X-Terra. The hardware did not work for me, so I ordered hardware from nissan to make it work. I drove with it from Va. to N.C. outerbanks with no problems at all, no noise or anything. I was concerned about rain but it did not leak at all. The directions say not to drive long or at high speeds with no weight in it, but when we arrived home I kept it on for a few weeks before removing it. I must say for as little as it costs It really surpased my expectations!!!!! This really is the best buy for the money hands down!"

Great Product,December 7, 2008
By Mercemtfrom Winston Salem,NC
"We bought ours in New York State on Long Island. We actually installed it on the roof in the parking lot of sears. It only took fifteen minutes. It does take two people and once up and on no worries. The unit has a ton of room and was able to handle any size box or suitcase. We have used it three times since our purchase including a trip to FLA. This unit does not leak if you follow the packing and mounting instructions. Also no real effect on gas milage. A couple of suggestions is that once you intall yor unit do not forget to mount the vinyl stickers inside the box. This will prevent water from getting in. Also once you get an opportunity I would suggest filling in the extra holes with clear silicone Caulk (bath and shower will work for this) Third get a small fold flat three step ladder. It will really help with mounting and loadin/unloading of the unit. You can store the ladder in he vehicle or the box. while traveling. Hope you get and enjoy this box unit it has not let us down yet. Next stop cross country to the Grand Canyon."
