DO NOT BUY!! JUNK!!, July 14, 2009
By Neenie from Woodland hills, CA

"I purchased this for my husband about a year ago he used only once and it fully charged the battery. He did not have to use until now and it does not work it never charged up again. Of course its out of warranty now. This is not worth throwing your money away...use it for something better not this product!"

Last one - no more, June 22, 2009
By NoMoreinPompano from Pompano Beach, Fl.

"This is my 3rd Portable Power 1150 and last. My 1150's lasted from 3 months to 18 months. I used this product primarily for filling auto and bike tires and inflating pool floats. I used it occassionally to jump start an auto. The first one the battery was defected and I received a new 1150. The second one the compressor died after about a year. Received a credit towards the third one. That one lasted about 18 months (getting better). Again the compressor went. Since this is out of warranty, there will not be a fourth. This product is definitely not worth $100+."

A useful tool within its limitations, February 26, 2009
By MantisMan from Reno, NV

"I have owned mine for about 5 months. I only use it to power my laptop and 2 energy-saver lamps in a tool shed and have never used the compressor, the jumpers, or the USB port.

By and large, it works well, but it does have some flaws that one must get used to. Most of the time I can run my laptop and lights for a good 2 hours and use no more than 40% of the charge, but occasionally it will cut out with the "Low" warning after less than 90 minutes, even though there will be 50% + of the charge left. Its power management is somewhat inconsistent.

The extremely slow recharge rate requires some planning on my part, but then I don't think batteries like this come with an instant-recharge capability so I can't really hold that against it. The function to display the remaining charge doesn't work though - I press the switch, it flashes some random number for a fraction of a second, then always displays either 100 or 40 thereafter. The only accurate way to check the charge level is to plug it into an AC power source and let it sit for a short while until the rating stabilizes. Also, once the charge level hits 99%, it literally takes 5 or 6 hours to make the jump to 100%, which makes me question how accurate the charge remaining display is then too.

On the plus side, it's tough - I dropped it down some concrete stairs and it still works as well as it did before.

For my purposes, it works just fine. How well it fares for other uses I have not and probably will not ever test, so for anyone who intends to use all of the bells and whistles, I can offer no experiences to encourage or dissuade you from this product.

Just what i wanted, February 9, 2009
By jforma from Los Angeles

"I use this in my garage to run lights when i work on my bikes. The compressor comes in handy for filling tires. I dont expect to run an entertainment system off it, just a few small lights and dremel tool time to time. Does the trick"

Not as bad as everyone says, January 24, 2009
By Michael9 from San Diego, CA

"This is really a great product. I have owned mine for a few years now and the only thing I agree with is the battery that comes with these is JUNK. I changed mine (american made battery) and it performs flawless, and I use mine for work almost every day. I use mine in the golf car business, jump start dead carts and even use it to power dead electric golf cars off the course so I don't have to push or tow them. Buy it on sale, and plan on spending 60 bucks for a new battery. With everything this unit does its a great price."

Bad product, January 8, 2009
By David88 from Kentucky

"I bought Portable Power 1150 on Sept. 5, 2008. Since then I only used four time. After each use I recharged it right away. Recently it did not charge anymore. I have to take it to locate Sears store to replace it. Even the new one I got from the store battery power was empty (0% in charge)."

"I have used this product for the past week with excellent results. Don't know why there are so many negative reviews. I mainly am going to use as back-up for power outage. I ran a 15 inch flat panal tv and small light for approximately 7 hours and it worked great. Charge time was about 24 hours to get fully charged. Accurate reading for charge...turn off for 30 minutes and push display. doesn't seem to give correct reading while charging. Manual will tell you this."

JUNK! Do NOT buy this product!, September 8, 2008
By LTDan from Huntington, WV

"I wish I had read these reviews before I wasted my time on two of these 'good for nothing but a doorstop' products. Bought my first one and it would not take charge AT ALL. Exchanged it for a second unit and it charged to 66% (AFTER 4 DAYS!) then it DIED. It will no longer take charge. Now I have to make another trip to Sears to try to get my money back. I'm extremely disappointed in this Sears / DieEasy product."

Doesn't last., August 27, 2008
By Anonymous from 94542

"Recieved as a gift. Had it for about a year, used as a portable tire inflator for my small truck and boat trailer tires. Compressor overheats easily. It could take two tires from 40 to 45 psi, but couldnt top off a third without a long cool down. I tried to use it again at the start of the boating season after about three months of non-use, and found the battery to be flat. If I plug it in, it acts like it is taking charge, but doesn't hold its juice for more than a minute.
I think the battery in the unit is defective. While it was useful while it worked, I definitely would not by this product again due to its lifespan.

Excellent unit, August 20, 2008
By Powersource from Reno, NV

"I take it camping and it runs an electric 120 volt fan for almost two full days. The light is bright when the power goes out at home. I am going to Sears and pick up a second one. Oh, and it started the car just fine after my wife left the key on all night...... It recharges quickly. Excellent unit."

Buyer Beware, August 16, 2008
By Lanny from Belvidere, IL

"Bought one for my mother; thought it would come in handy for her when power goes out, needless to say when the power went out her unit would not work. She left it plugged in until 100% charge. When she needed it, the compressor worked, but the ac outlet would not. We re-charged it for her, will not hold a charge for longer than 8 minutes. Takes at least 2 days to charge for 8 min of use. Recently purchased a Duracell Powerpak and works great. Have had a Xantrex for 8 years with never a problem. Will never purchase another Diehard product. Very unreliable."

Decent Product, July 24, 2008

"I've had one of these for about 2 years. My only complaint is it's painfully slow to charge - it takes days!. Other than that, it's a great backup power supply to have around in an emergency."

Weak, May 19, 2008
By flaMtneer from Orlando, FL

"I've had this product for a couple years. I also have a Xantrex 400 which Sears replaced with this unit. The Diehard is rated at 400 W- the same as the Xantrex- but there is NO comparison. The Diehard MIGHT handle 80-100W and will run dry very quickly. Appliances that run easily on the Xantrex will not operate on the Diehard. The Diehard has failed to deliver enough power to start my car when the battery went bad. The compressor is fine for bicycle tires and to add a couple PSI to auto tires but will shut itself off (overheat?) after adding air to more than about 3 auto tires. In summery - When using very small appliances, dvd players, laptops etc and using it as an inverter rather than stand-alone power this unit operates fine. Also as an inflator for sports equipment and small tires it works fine. But it doesn't have the power to handle anything even close to it's specs. Owning both the Diehard and the Xantrex, I'd purchase the Xantrex again in a heartbeat - the Diehard? No."

unhappy with this, do not buy!!!, April 24, 2008
By diemore from san francisco

"i bought this over a year ago now. i have used the jumper many times with little problems, the compressor had failed(broke) so i brought it back and sears gave me a new one. i charged it and tried to use the compressor on a compact car tire and the compressor broke again, on a whole new unit! so back to sears i went, and they wont replace it. now i am stuck with a broken 120 dollar jumper/compressor!
the jumper allows you a 10 second window to start your car, and then takes 60 seconds to re-juice itself. the worst unit ever! buyer beware!
DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!

Lacking Instructions, April 13, 2008
By saldy from florida

"I bought a unit but when I check voltage across the jump start leads, no voltage was detected. There was no mention on what to expect. The 12 VDC socket tested no voltage at all. I returned the product but the salesman cannot give me a satisfactory explanation except that it works."
