Great appliance, August 11, 2009
By SusanR from Syracuse, New York

"I have had this cooktop for about 4 months now and I'm very happy with it. I would prefer a gas stove, but am not set up for that, but as far as electric goes this product is great. The positioning of the elements is a little strange, I feel like they are far away from me, but getting used to it. I love the touch pad and the speed in which things heat up and cool down. It is very easy to clean and looks great when it's clean. One thing to consider before purchasing this appliance is whether your cookware is magnetic. I found out the hard way that most of my cookware did not work with this induction type cooktop. Revereware is NOT magnetic and I had to purchase all new pots and pans. That was a cost that I did not expect. Check the bottom of your pans with a magnet to see if they will work with the induction system. All in all, I'm very happy with this appliance."

LOVE IT!, April 23, 2009
By kcsmom from Georgia

"I have had this cooktop for three years. I use it at least three times a day and usually am using all four units. I will be building a new house soon and I will also purchase this cooktop for that house. I like it THAT MUCH!!!
The only problem I have had is the trim strip came loose on the front. I did purchase the extended warranty, so no hassles there.

Awesome Cooktop, April 13, 2009
By PennyV from Ashtabula, OH

"With my Fabulous New iCookware and this Induction CookTop it's marriage made in Cooking Heaven! They work excellent together. Great to cook on top of a towel. I dont scratch cooktop or Beautiful Cookware. Everything I cook comes out like Gourmet! Both these things has made cooking even more fun than before. I love not sweating over any heat. Once you buy the induction Cooktop along with my iCookware, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner. You will also want to upgrade to the correct cookware."

Buyer Beware, April 5, 2009
By mrsmjt

"I had a Kenmore Elite installed in Dec 2008. After a power outage, on Christmas day, the cooktop had an error message and an annoying beep that wouldn't stop until we turned off the breaker. Every time we tried to restart the cooktop, the annoying beep persisted. It took 2-3 hours before it would restart. We continued to have power outages during January and the same thing occurred repeatedly, but each time the cooktop took longer to reboot. Once it took 3 days before I could use it again.

In Feb, serviceman came, couldn't figure out problem so replaced the entire guts of the unit ($1300 their cost). Since that time the hobs have been slow to boil water. Some take over 10 minutes which is not acceptable for induction. Also, the electronic controls do not respond well to my fingers and it is very frustrating to get them to work. Others mentioned this in reviews, but I didn't listen.

Thankfully, after going to Sears store where I purchased cooktop, they graciously agreed to replace it with a Bosch which is on order. I was pleasantly suprised with the excellence of their customer service! The salesman said that Electrolux which makes Kenmore Elite is junk so buyer beware! I read the reviews on Sears.com and many were positive so I was swayed because the Kenmore was decidely less expensive for the budget conscious. In retropsect, I wish I would've heeded the negative reviews. If you decide to buy Kenmore Elite, make sure you get the protection agreement as you may need it.

one and a half years and still happy, December 21, 2008
By tyskitchen from Fort Mill, SC

"before we bought we read the reviews and added the warranty at the lat minute. So far so good 1.5 years of cooking and the cooktop still looks like new and performs great. We are also only using a 30 Amp circuit and it has never blown (instructions call for 40 amp). I find the buttons a little frustrating to adjust in a hurry. sometimes it reads my finger sometimes I have to try a few times. I bought this one because I wanted a 30" and I was also price conscious. I really really like induction!"

Induction Cooktop, October 20, 2008
By SmoochMom from Boston. MA

"I have had this cooktop for a few months now and have found a new love of cooking. Not only is it fast to heat up but on low simmer actually keeps food warm similar to a crock pot. Even delicate rices stay warm and do not overcook. I cook a lot of soups and they can be left simmered unattended instead of requiring frequent stirring.
The surface is easily cleaned with vinegar and water and stays clean as glass. you can clean it right after cooking as there is no heat from the surface, there is no heat generated you dont get cooked on food that stains and clumps. I had a radiant cooktop and that was an issue with that style. The only issue is the touch buttons take a few seconds to respond.
Would highly recommend and it is worth the extra $1000 for the cleanliness and time savings.

Just fair, September 13, 2008
By CameronT from Boston, NY

"Do not buy this cooktop without a 5 year service plan. We got the cooktop in Sept/2006, and it failed Aug/2008. Just turned off during use and after 4 visits from Sears ($1000+ in parts and labor, not charged to us) they declared it "not economical to repair" and gave us an authorization number to go shop for a new cooktop. We've been without a cooktop for about a month now.
Now for a review of the cooktop itself: it worked well, but there were some annoying things:
1) most induction cooktops have two separate amplifier circuits so that you can boost on two separate zones at the same time; not this one
2) no auto-off timers. It's great to be able to set the timer for something like oatmeal and have it turn off after 30 minutes while you're still in the shower
3) the trim on the front and back made it hard to clean
4)no quick access to low/med/high

Other than that, we love induction cooking for all the reasons outlined in the other reviews here.

Great but know what you are buying, August 15, 2008
By Anonymous from denver, co

"i will not go into how great induction and the cooktop both are as there are 30+ reviews here. However you can put a towel under a frying pan to keep spatters down. The cooktop is shiny glass and shows every small smudge!
The other thing to be aware of is the cooktop needs a 40 amp circuit many 30" cooktops are 30 so you will need to upgrade your electrical in order to have the cooktop work.
Your pots and pans need to be magnetic. If a magnet does not stick to the bottom of the pan then it will not work!
All that said we both love our cooktop and we got rid of over 20 pots and pans we had accumulated and now have 3 frying pans and 4 pots!

Works great when it is working, but..., July 16, 2008
By Allan2008 from Oakville, Canada

"We owned this units since Nov 2007. The induction technology works great. Boils water rapidly, heats instantly. However, after one brief power outage, the unit has become unreliable. Intermittently, the unit would show various error codes which resolves with cutting the power to the unit 48hrs minimum. We have contacted Sears for repair. After two technicians, 3 visits, 2 incorrect parts ordered and replaced, we are at 7 weeks without a functioning cook top. Both technicians (one of them with 30 yrs of experience) eventually admitted that these were very new units and both haven't seen many of them and therefore were not able to diagnosis the problem precisely. Meanwhile, much time was wasted ordering parts that were not going the fix the problem. I think most people would consider 7 weeks with no cooking facility to be unacceptable. We have requested a replacement. We have yet to hear from this request. I will update my review when the replacement arrives in our home."

Can't wait to use it all the time, July 7, 2008
By Tabbykat from Florida and New Jersey

"I have this cooktop in our home in Florida which will ultimately be for retirement but we use for our very frequent vacations there in the meantime. We finally finished remodeling the kitchen and now the cooktop is in and working GREAT!!! It's everything I expected and more. Now I just can’t wait until I retire so that I can use it everyday instead of once a month or so. Just got back from vacation and miss it already. ‘They’ say gas is the best, but I have cooked with gas all my life and all I can say is ‘where has induction been all my life?’."

Still in Love Two Years Later, June 7, 2008
By tilenipper from Chandler, AZ

"I believe in reviewing a product after I have used it for awhile. Two years after purchase, I am still so in love with this cooktop.

I love how fast it boils water. I love how instantly you can change/control the temperature. I love that spills don't burn onto the surface. I love how I can polish it back to looking new - and the flat controls means no knobs to try to clean around. I love that it is extremely energy efficient, AND does not heat up my kitchen (I live in Arizona, so that is a major bonus in the summertime).

We have actually annoyed guests in our home with our enthusiastic demos of the the cooktop! "You gotta see this!..."

The finger touch pads do take a specific touch to respond, but you get used to it. Your fingers can't be wet.

Also, I had a heavy pepper grinder in the cabinet above my cooktop, and it slipped out of my hand, cracking the back corner of the cooktop. I was heartbroken, but the crack is hardly noticeable, and the cooktop still works perfectly. So just don't store heavy stuff above the cooktop. It is glass.

One more bonus: the unit is so slim that we regained the cabinet space below the cooktop.

It's so Cool!, March 17, 2008
By llazy1 from Florence OR

"I'm no master chef. I've cooked on electric and gas. I wanted gas but my only gas option here is propane, which is way too much hassle not to mention the expense to add.
I forget where I heard about induction but after researching it I was sold on the kenmore. We got it last spring, replacing a 30 year old electric unit. All the good things you've read are true. It's super fast.. faster than gas.
When I'm running late, I can make my over easy egg macmuffin type breakfast in less than 3 minutes.
(Mine beats mcd's taste by miles.)
I used to buy my breakfast at work (with employee discount at casino) every day. I've made it at home every day since putting this unit in.
The touchpad buttons aren't really problematic.. you just have to learn the technique for hitting them right.
The settings are precise.. adjust in half step incriments. The only sound is a slight hum. I liked the energy efficiency aspect. My husband had wanted one of those pro gas cooktops that look like a restaurants.. .. i was ok with that until I read the reviews on most of the big name units.. check the expense and frequency for replacing the heads!! I might as well burn my cash. Which you can't actually do on the induction cooktop, even if you put a bill under the pot on a burner. (cool induction trick). Aside from it's speed, I just love the look.. so sleek. It really is a cinch to keep clean. I really worried about that until I talked to a friend who had a regular glass top electric unit who said it was simple. No one mentions it but the kenmore comes with a great non stick frying pan (wearever).. I ended up buying the set for Christmas. We also had our counters replaced with Corian 's Aruba just before installing the induction unit. Stunning. :-)

Great for eco-conscious home chefs!, February 15, 2008
By GinTexas from Central Texas

"I've had the Elite 30 since July. My island was wired only for a 30 amp circuit so I took a chance as this needs barely above 30 amps if you use all 4 burners at once on the highest setting, and I won't. I have been delighted with the performance of this cooktop. I have cooked for dinner parties of 15+, cocktail parties of 50+, and can't say enough good things about it. Very controlled low settings perfect for egg custards and melting chocolate; powerful high settings for making pasta or searing meats. Best of all in a hot humid climate, it puts out very little ambient heat. My research indicates this uses lots less energy to cook than electric or gas, which I appreciate very much. I certainly spend less time at the stove. My only complaint is I often have cool fingers, and the controls are heat actuated, so sometimes it's hard for me to get the button to recognize I'm pressing it. But it's no big deal. I love my induction cooktop and will never go back to gas!"

"I like others had a failure very soon after installing it. I used it for about a month and it just quit completely. Fortunately I have a Sears Masterplan. Unfortunately, even with a masterplan there is no guarentee when they will even come out to fix it. I have to wait 8 days for them just to pay the initial visit. You might want to keep this in mind before buying the the Sears Masterplan.
The other issue is the surface response buttons are not responsive at all. It takes a lot of patience to make the buttons work. However, when everything is working, there is no comparison cooking on an induction cooktop and a standard cooktop. You will be blown away how responsive the cooktop is. I have never experienced as fast a boil on anything, including gas. Cleanup is fantastic as well.
My recommendation is get an induction cooktop but consider buying the Bosch or GE induction cooktop.

"We like the idea of induction cooking so much we were excited to have our cooktop from Sears. Alas, the first one was delivered defective, one of the burners didn't work at all. It was exchanged for a new one which worked great for about 2 months, when it stopped working all together. The Sears repairman found a defect in the wiring. Wires were not insulated, melted and caused a short that blew out the control panel. Since we are 2 weeks past our 90 days for returns, we are stuck with it. It will be repaired, but with 2 out of 2 defective tops, we would not buy it again or recommend it to anyone else."

"Initially we were happy with this cooktop and would have agreed with many of the other review comments.
Eighteen months after purchase, the cooktop controls froze and showed error code 31. The base warrenty is 12 months.
Sears wanted $700 plus $130 for repair labor to replace two electronic boards. After waiting 10 days for the boards to arrive, the Sear repair person ruined a board and had to reorder. After the second set of boards failed to fix the problem, the Sears factory declared the unit to be unrepairable, said it was out of warrenty and said good-bye.
My experience then was the equivalent of paying $100 a month for 18 months and then having to buy another cooktop.
Buy an extended warrenty as long as you can...or buy a different cooktop.

"I bought this cooktop after I saw a piece on induction cooktops on HGTV's "I Want That Kitchens" show. I was very fascinated with the technology, and after doing some research I realized that it would give me the best of both worlds..."efficiency of gas cooking" without having to run new gas lines to my house. Since installing the cooktop (during a whole house remodel), I have nothing but great things to say about the unit. I have been using it for the past 6 months and I have been bragging to everyone after the efficiency and responsiveness of the product. The best features are the power surge option (which allows you to heat a pot of water in a matter of minutes), the fact that the unit itself never gets hot where you can burn yourself (very important when you have two small kids that are always underfoot), and the ease of cleaning (smooth top yeah). One drawback of this cooktop though is since the burners are linked together (i.e. two by two), you cannot have each coil at 4 separate heat settings. For example if one burner is at setting 6, then its linked burner has to be at a setting of 6 or less. And this setting is determined by which setting you turn on first."

"My wife and I are both very happy with this. It performs at least as well as gas, and if anything is more immediately responsive and seems more powerful. The downside so far is the initial cost, and I'm not thrilled with the touch sensitive controls, although after a few days I did get used to them. Durability is still an unknown, but its my understanding these units are made by Electrolux which is what my folks have had for 3 plus years, and they haven't had any problems."
