like this machine,October 14, 2009

"my husband told me to buy something nice, since I have everything except a serger this is what I've purchase, it was a task to thread it but finally gotten it done within an hour and watching the dvd over and over again.. I tested the stitches and I love it.
I may be using this machine more than my sewing machine made by kenmore."

Kenmore 3/4 thread serger,July 28, 2009
By LaurieG
"I've had my Kenmore 3/4 serger for going on 20 years now. Love it.
10 years ago I decided to go high-end; bought a 5-thread Husky. Used it for 6 months with enormous frustration and disappointment. Got tired of messing with it one day and swung back to my Kenmore.
I was stunned. The stitch was beautiful; the set-up time limited to the thread color change. The Husky was abandoned. Five years ago I tried again. Bernina 5-thread with coverstitch this time. Another bummer. Anything to do with the chainstich/coverstitch looper takes an entire evening to set up--I've yet to get anything near an acceptable coverstitch.
The Kenmore is my primary serger. It gives a perfect stitch every time, with any adjustment requiring less than a minute. The lower looper is annoying to thread on the rare occasion you need to do it, but fast nonetheless, so who cares.
I came to this site today to see if Kenmore has expanded their serger line. They haven't, too bad. Still, I wouldn't recommend any serger but this--and the price is 1/3 less than it was 20 years ago. Cool. IMHO, you can't go wrong with one of these. It's the serger equivalent the Engegizer Bunny. You couldn't rip mine away from me. Really ~"

Small but Mighty!,April 19, 2009
By PamelaMaefrom Redlands, CA
"I am starting a small clothing business and needed a serger, but don't have much money in my budget. I have always loved Kenmore products for their quality, so I looked on the website and found this serger, saw the great reviews, and even better price and knew this was the one. Although it came pre-threaded, I wanted to learn to thread it myself. I was a little intimidated and thought I'd never get it threaded right, but I watched and followed the dvd that came with the serger and it was really very easy. This machine is a dream; I run it for hours and it never hesitates, snags, or tangles - it is a little powerhouse! Thank you Sears Kenmore!"

Unbeatable value,January 31, 2009
By Homeschool1Momfrom Temecula, CA
"I have had this serger over a year now, and have had no problems at all with it. I don't use it everyday, but when I do use it, its continues for hours. Last Christmas I used it to sew up hundreds of corn bags. Using the serger saved hours of work. The family that was helping in the assembly line keep thanking my husband for my Christmas present of last year because of the time it was saving. During this project I had to thread my machine for the first time. (I had tied my thread to the thread samples that where already threaded and just pulled it through when I first got the machine.) It did take a little time, but it was because I threaded a thread backwards, once I discovered this, its been easy. I love this machine and highly recommend it. I had never owned one before but had used them. I am so glad I went with this one and not a more expensive model. Maybe I can get a new sewing machine with the money that was saved. I do wish the material guide came with the machine. I want to get this because I think it will make it easier to keep the material straight. ( Don't forget to oil your machine as directed.)"

a great solid machine,January 23, 2009
By sarahsewsfrom New york, NY
"First, the slightly negative stuff. This isn't the easiest serger to thread. The instruction manual is a bit on the flimsy side and not all that informative.
But once you get this machine threaded...it just sews like a dream. I'm inlove with this serger. It is a workhorse . I'm thrilled that I bought it."

hops to much,December 29, 2008
By hoppinawayfrom graham, washington
"I have only had this machine for a week or so but I really like it. my grandma has a husqvarna viking 910 computerized serger. I thought it was awsome but after using this kenmore I'm thinking why in the world would you spend $1200.00 on a serger when you never use it. I think I've used hers 4 times which is 3 times more than her.lol. any way this machine is very easy to thread after glancing at the manual. and you can sew almost anything on it if you adjust the tension for different fabric types. I am very excited to watch the video and see what sort of cool new things I can make with all the different attachments.(need to be purchased) the only reason I rated this product at a 4 is because although I love the speed of this baby I can't use it at it's full potential because it almost hops right off my table.( my grandma's viking is so slow on the fast setting I just want to pull my project right out the back side.) so as soon as I can fix my minor vibration problem my rating will go from a 4 to a 10!"

Great Buy,November 24, 2008
By Lyndeefrom Deer Park, WA
"I bought this serger a couple weeks ago. I have never used one before. The DVD that came with the serger is great. I set my serger near my DVD player and followed step by step the threading technique and only made one goof which I quickly discovered. The DVD explains the different techniques and is very informative. I think this is a great buy. While it is nice to have tweezers it would have been most helpful to have had a looper threader included in the supplies. You need something to reach underneath and behind where you thread the lower looper. I 'jerry rigged' a hook with some jewelry wire I had to retrieve the thread and then went and bought a long needle threader. I would suggest buying a threader at the same time as purchasing the machine. I have two Kenmore sewing machines which have served me well. One is 30 years old and I'm still sewing on it. I don't think you can go wrong with a Kenmore."

Great starter machine,August 17, 2008
By Masroefrom Jefferson City, MO
"This is a great first serger. I should have gotten one of these years ago! I do a lot of home decor sewing and really needed to be able to sew overlock seams faster than my sewing machine. This machine does the job quite to my satisfaction. I've tried fairly light-weight fabrics, and even heavy upholstery materials with just the results I needed, strong, fast stitching, and the fabric trimming is great. The threading isn't as bad as I would have thought it to be, and when using regular threads it's easy to just tie on to the old thread for the lower looper and pull through the new thread to avoid some of the difficulty there (still double-check it be sure it's correct). The suction cup feet make it stable, even when running it fast. I'm sure a fancier machine could offer more, but I can't beat this serger for my needs!"

Kenmore Serger Model #16677,June 16, 2008
By Newtosergingfrom Williamsburg, VA
"I received my serger on Friday, and when I viewed the DVD, I threaded it (which took me 2-1/2 hours). I had made one mistake in threading looper #1 through one place the wrong direction. Once I finally discovered my error, the serger worked perfectly. I made two pillowcases and serged beautifully!!! I had never used a serger before, but will definitely look for projects for which I can use my new serger. Thanks!!!"

Very Smooth,April 24, 2008
By Sewpleasedfrom Waukee, Iowa
"I purchased this serger. LOVE IT!!!! This is my 2nd serger by Kenmore. My first one I used for 9 years and still use. I am very pleased with the performance. I use the serger daily for my sewing business of baby and skating items. I have no problems with tension or threading. I am looking at purchasing another one just for black thread only. If you have never used a serger before, it takes patience. I suggest playing with 4 different colors of thread and learn the loops. Loop tension is half the battle when learning. Like anything to master, one must practice."

A great value,April 22, 2008
By Sewgalfrom Cocoa, FL
"I replaced an ancient serger with this one and so far I'm very happy with it. I thought the DVD was very informative and I learned some new stuff even thought I've been sewing for years. Unfortunately, one of the spool holders was missing and I'll have to have them send me one, but I just took one off my old machine and it works fine. For the price, I think this is a fine machine. Its a lot less cumbersome than my old BabyLock machine. if you're new to serging, it takes some practice, but well worth it if you sew a lot."

Ooh La La I love this machine!,March 8, 2008
By Notamommafrom Kentucky
"I was so excited to be able to get this machine on sale. I have sewed with a Kenmore sewing machine for years so naturally when I went to buy a serger it was going to be a Kenmore. I am a semi-professional seamstress. When I was asked to make some cloth diapers for a friend, I thought a serger would be ideal and I was so right. I agree with the owners manual, I hate that it is printed with English and Spanish on the same page, but it was very easy to get used to. I had some trouble with the looper thread breaking, I then noticed that I was trying to be cheap and buy cheap thread, when I got better thread it solved the problem. I also love the rolled hem stitch, it looks very professional. I make everything with this serger. The $89 I paid for it was so worth it."

EXCELENT,February 2, 2008
By BLUETfrom NY
"I really can't understand how can somebody be disapointed with this machine and I am a fashion designer so I really make the machine works a lot. Sergers are not for amateurs, you need some previous knowledge on sewing and if you know how to put the threads in a regular one, this is not so so complicate at all, only the first thread takes more time, the rest of them is really easy. And as with every machine is all about practice, no manual is going to teach you a lot and if you need a book to learn even more, there's several of them in the market for less than 20 dollars so come on girls! do not turn your personal frustrations towards this noble serger that makes a superb job!"

GREAT value!,January 15, 2008
By ankashafrom Northshore of Boston
"I was lucky enough to get this for $99 because my local store had a returned one with an open box. There was no DVD nor was there any instructions. I had those sent to me through Sears. I had the machine working before they arrived howeve; just had the local salesperson guide me through threading a few times before I brought it home. I sew tons of chothes for my kids and it's great to just "zip" through everything now knowing it's not going to fray. Also -- the Sears sewing book is a great book to have anyway if you sew regularly. My friend has a 5- thread serger and it can only really do 2 finish stitches that this one can't!"

"I was so excited to finally get a serger, however disappointment set in very quickly with this machine. I knew there would be a learning curve but I was up for the challenge. The manual is so poorly written. They show 30 some stiches on the box you can do with the machine, but the manual only tells you how to do 6 of them. If you want to know how to do the rest you have to buy Kenmore's 49.99 book. They don't sell the book in the store so I could not look at it to see if it is as poorly written as the owner manual. I have had so many problems with the looper thread breaking and I have done eveything the manual has said to do in the trouble shooing section for broken threads. I will be retuning it. I would not recommend it."
