Good Stuff,August 31, 2009
By Enumclawfrom Near Seattle, WA
"I bought a couple of these back in April -- when they were on sale at an extremely good price -- but only assembled and started using them recently. They were fairly easy to put together by myself, although it would have been easier if I had some extra hands. I used my own tools rather than the toy wrenchs included with the parts.
Anyway, I found them to be generally made of very high quality materials and very sturdy after put together.
Warning: Pay close attention to the stated seat height and don't get something too tall (or short).
I highly recommend these to others -- especially if you can get them on sale."

Great Quality,August 14, 2009
By HVfromSCfrom South Carolina
"Just picked up the two I ordered as store delivery, drove home, put them together and wrote this review in an hour. If you read the instructions and take a quick glance at the photo on the box, assembly should be fairly easy. Parts are Craftsman quality and the stool is exactly the right height for use at a 36" or higher work or too bench."

Good option,July 21, 2009

"This is a good cost effective option. I wish there were wheels, but I can add those later. A little tough to put together alone, but not too bad."

Hydraulic Craftsman Workshop Stool,July 14, 2009
By Anonymousfrom Illinois
"Made a great Father's Day Gift for my husband who is a remote control airplane pilot. He uses it in his workshop when he builds planes. It was easy to assemble and has a nice supportive back on it. It adjusts to different heights which is nice as my husband is tall. He loves it! It is Craftsman quality so we know it will be around a long time."

Tall Stool,June 9, 2009
By bef1from Torrance, CA
"Bought and assembled this today. Had a choice between this for $50 and #51164 for $20. The other was too low at the highest setting for my workbench and this was a little too high at the lowest setting. Went to a local store and sat on the floor sample which was a death trap with loose parts, not all in the right places. Considered using tools off the shelves to tighten the screws but noticed that half were stripped.
Found another stool being used by the sales crew in front of a terminal and carried it off to place in front of the workbenches. This one was better constructed although it was missing 2 leveling feet. I decided to buy this one because, if necessary, I could cut the tubular steel legs to lower it and/or insert casters.
Stool comes disassembled in a relatively easy to carry box. It was well packed with cardboard and nylon ties to hold the metal pieces together without damaging the finish. The seat bottom and back rest were packed in foam/bubble wrap (keep these for placing on the floor when assembling.
Read the instructions and look at the pictures to figure out which part is being referred to in the instructions and it is very easy to assemble. I used a 10mm deep socket ratchet instead of the included wrench along with a stubby Phillips.
One modification I made was that I added a #10 finish washer and a 1/4" flat washer between the lock nut and leg when attaching the leg to the square bottom frame/footrest. The hole in the tube is concave and the curved part of the finish washer fits in the cavity well and is compressed by the flat washer as you tighten the lock nut.
At the lowest height this is perfect when sitting in front of the radial arm saw (old Craftsman) and floor standing drill press (Delta 16.5"). It is a little too tall for my work bench (Craftsman on Hitachi? wheels) so I have to hunch over whatever I am working on. I actually use the radial arm saw table more as a table since there is room for my legs underneath it so I may not bother to shorten the legs.
Each leg has a leveler foot which allowed me to prevent the stool from wobbling but unfortunately the floor is not level/even so that it has to be adjusted each time I move it (if I cared).
The seat is friction fitted on top of a pneumatic cylinder which is friction fitted to the stool frame. It does wobble a little but not so much to make it feel unsafe. The backrest adjusts both up and down (only 2 settings) and continuously front to back (thumbscrews under the seat)"

Craftsman hydraulic stool,April 26, 2009
By ljltgfrom Dunnellon, FL
"So far, so good. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it's a little too high at the lowest setting, but that's not a big deal (maybe I'll cut the legs down). I owned a chair similar to this one (not as tall) where I used the hydraulic feature regularly, and it failed after only a couple of months. We'll see how this one performs."

Looks are not everything,March 27, 2009
By jpretiredfrom DeSoto, tx.
"This chair always looked good in the store and the ads so I got one last Christmas. Its really not a very well built stool but for the price I expected that. The problem is the stool is not comfortable. The seat cushion sort of goes flat when you set on it like its full of air. The tiny little back rest offered no support but did help keep you from falling off the back when you set. Not rolling, not mobile became a problem quckly. I seldom set in mine and sold it a couple of months ago. It still looked good, never hardly set on it. But as we know, looks are only skin deep."

Steardy and Comfortable,January 13, 2009
By TxReneefrom Texas
"This chair arrived in a box with many pieces, but all were there. Since I bought this as a present and didn't have to put it together, it was an easy process (ha ha). The chair is very steardy and comfortable with hight adjustment and foot rest. It has made working in the garage comfortable for not only him but me and my 80 year old mother has been caught trying to move it into the kitchen to sit on while cooking."

only for jolly green giant,December 27, 2008
By glasscrafterfrom Marshfield WI
"I asked for this as a Christmas present to use in my glass craft room. First of all it almost takes 2 people to put it together---one to hold it and the other to go get some tools that actually work. If you have any problem w/hand strength it will be agony to put together. Second, it states that the seat lowest is 28 " and adjusts up to 33". i am 5'4" w/29 inseam...so I figured I should be able to use it at lowest setting...well when it was all put together I will have to use a stool to get up to the seat...I measured---top of seat at lowest setting is 30 1/2"....So needless to say after 3 hrs of struggle to get it together my Christmas present is going back..VERY DISSAPPOINTED!!! and there is no way I'm taking it apart again!!!"

"I have purchased 3 of these stools. Found them to be worthy of the Craftsman Name. Would agree with others that the tools sent for assembly are pretty much worthless. That being said, the set up is quiet easy and quick. Have recomended them to my friends who have loved sitting in them. For the money they are hard to beat!"

Not for constant use,November 26, 2008
By PCDistributorsfrom Fayetteville, NC
"while the craftsman stools are nice, I bought a pair for use in a store, where they get daily constant use. i would not recommend these for anything more than occasional use. and for the price not really worth it for something that is only good to use once in a while."
