Craftsman AccuTrac Laser Measuring Tool

The Craftsman AccuTrac Laser Measuring Tool uses precise point-to-point laser technology to calculate a single distance, square feet, cubic feet and the Pythagorean Theorem. The accuracy is +/- 3/16-in at 150 feet. With the press of a button, AccuTrac can convert measurements in feet, meters and millimeters and display in both fractions and decimals. A recall feature saves up to ten measurements to memory and allows users to scroll in forward and reverse through the saved measurements. AccuTrac combines laser precision with digital clarity and intuitive buttons for clear, easy measurements. All measurements are displayed on a large backlit LCD screen and an icon is pictured to illustrate the function on each button. While gravity works against tape measures, the laser travels point to point, resulting in more accurate measurements and less aggravation when trying to measure a great room or up multiple stories. A reference point button has been added which allows users to choose where they would like their reference point to begin; at the top of the tool or at the bottom. Adding to the versatility of the tool, it can be used indoors, outdoors and in hard to reach areas. The Accutrac is ideal for DIYers, Real Estate Appraisers, Interior Designers, Decorators, Carpenters, Plumbers, Painters, Carpet/wood/tile installers, HVAC Professionals, and Landscapers. Includes: measuring tool, carrying case and operators manual.

Accutrac Laser, October 1, 2009
By MartyBogle from Hot Springs, Arkansas

"This has been a life saver, Use this for measuring homes
Works great.. Only problem is when the distance is over 30 feet on a bright day you lose the red dot, after a year the rubber that are the buttons glue failed and had to be reglued, and the pouch for your belt fell apart after daily use in about 2 months , but over all i Use this all day 4 to 5 days a week, have had it for over a year and it still keeps going strong

ok but would not recommend, March 17, 2009
By ChristopherT from Seattle

"I bought this to measure a couple of window frames to order some custom blinds. Firstly, the button to make the measure it quite stiff so it is easy to move the measure when trying to take the measurement. Secondly, we measured the top of the window frame a total of 6 times (3 by me, 3 by my girlfriend) and they all read the same measurement. Blinds arrived and didn't fit. Used an old-school tape measure to measure everything....the laser measure had been a good 1/8" out!"

Craftsman AccuTrac Laser Measuring Tool, January 14, 2009
By diam from Lake Havasu City, AZ

"I bought this tool for my husband. He is very happy with it. He is not very good with programmable screens and computer objects, but he found this easy to operate and uses it for home and business. I changed his mind that women cannot find a useful tool for a man who has so many. I watched him struggle with measurements and the calculator for too long. It arrived in plenty of time for Xmas which was my biggest concern as I ordered it shortly before when all the stores were sold out."

"I found this to be very useful to measure room dimensions when estimating square footage, especially with a room full of furnishings. Tool worked great until this last week-end when after one measurment unit failed to do ANY functions other than laser staying lit without measuring anything. So far I haven't found a way to remedy this problem. Some trouble shooting guidance would be nice, rather than throwing away a former useful product."

First Impression Good, December 31, 2008
By Trytti from Iowa

"My first impression is pretty good. I've found it to be within 1/8th of an inch at about 60 ft. That was comparing it to a cloth tape. All the measurements have been just under what I've been able to discern with other tapes. I haven't read any of the manual yet. Perhaps there is a way adjust to be more accurate."

Worthless Product, December 24, 2008

"Does Not Work At all, I returned it three times and each time receiving another new and worthless tool. I recommend the BOSCH Range Finder 165K"

Ugh, October 5, 2008
By Mrhof from bellingham wa

"Well got my first one, didnt work. Sears gave new one, tried it in the store- didnt work! Wow 2 in a row, thats bad. Tried a third. It worked real good. It worked out to 260 feet indoors- WOW and to 1/16 accurate (compared against a $400 Lieca Disto i have!!)Pythagorean Theorem works great, couldnt find this on anything under $300. Then i tried the math function! Ugh didnt work! Messed with it for an hour then figured out how to make the math work! Poor design for math calcs, It doesnt work like the instructions say but it does work. Math is not very intuitive, but works. Then had some errors with indoor high intensity lihghting, bad measurements. But i needed a cheaper unit than my $400 Disto because i broke one and thats too much to throw away. I also own A fatmax laser, great and small. The Sears unit also has a bad way of taking measurements, the laser switches on and off during measurement and the buttons are harder than most to press. This causes woble when taking a measurement. Ill never buy another Craftsman AccuTrac!"

A Great Value!, May 27, 2008

"This tool has an intuitive interface, is easy to use, and produces highly repeatable measurements. The ergonomics are a bit ackward but, otherwise, I have only good things to say."

Works great after returning first one!, February 9, 2008
By Sommerwood from Simi Valley,Ca

"The first one I got gave me nothing but errors,so it was returned. The second unit which I tested at the store had no problems. I have tried this product at night and it worked without any errors.Worked with any surface and lighting conditions I tried. Big reason for buying this over other brands. The backlight display, bubble level and recall and memory of other measurments. If the first unit was not bad, I would have given the product 5 stars."

I like it, January 5, 2008
By tbar77 from Lancaster, Ca

"I have read reviews saying this tool is not accurate. I have found mine very accurate and easy to use. I have had a few bad readings (less than 1/4 of an inch) but I always check my work and the final result has been most favorable. For the price you can't beat it."

"I have tried a few cheap ones, like Black & Decker, and was looking at an expensive Leica Disto. With Pythagoras calculations they cost $200 or more. I saw this and have tried it and I like it. It meassures pretty exact for my needs, and also in bad light. Pythagoras functions well which means you can measure from a distance, great when access is bad in a room or on a yard. So far so good. For this price you cannot go wrong."

"I thought it was a bit hasty for one to say this fall short of how it SHOULD work compared to the raves of others.. until I bought one. Its all true: pressing the buttons wld cause level movement = a bad reading, most of the time it didn't get a measurement, & if it did it was wrong whether near or far, light or dark, different textures rough, shiny, solid or mat. The measurement was always 0.580 or 0.575 when the distance was actually frm 1 mtr. or more tested w/ a tape measure or even w/the other model "Craftsman Laser Guided Tool !" How can it even reach the max. of 50 mtrs ? It wld have been convenient, yes, if it worked as how it was described =( Is it possible mine is faulty ?"

"I am looking to start my own as built drawing business and saw this product on sale for $99, so I bought it.
It reminds me of a disto that I used 10 years ago.
The display is great, along with all of the extras (plus, minus, recall, Pythagorean theorem, etc...).
The shape and size are fine for my hands.
The only concern that I have is the quality of the case. The battery door is loose. The overall feel of the case is cheap.
Not sure if I will keep it.

"Working in the property insurance business, I measure several entire (mostly fire damaged) buildings a week. This is the best laser measuring tool I have purchased to date. Although the unit provides very accurate measurements, its best feature is the backlit display which allows one to see measurements in buildings with very limited light. Also nice is that the units saves your prior measurements. I admit the unit was akward at first to handle, but once you realize the proper way to angle the unit to access the buttons with one hand it excels. Uses 2 standard AA batteries and gets good battery life. The belt pouch is nice to. Great unit at a great price."

"I was really disappointed by this product. About 70% of the time I got one of its error messages. When I did get a distance reading, a follow up reading of the same measurement might be different by several inches to several feet. It is a great concept; if only it worked!"

"Got it for Father's day. Can't get much simpler than this - point, press & measure! Now one person can do what used to take two people. Good deal for the money - the closest comparable one costs $179.99.
Although it is not made for small hands, it is not overly bulky either. The buttons could be a little easier to push though -(probably the result of making it ruggedized for the weather). Getting used to where to push them helps. Would like to see a tripod mount. The onboard calculating features are a definite plus.
Overall, in my opinion an excellent tool for the money.

"This product is good for its value. However, the buttons are hard to press, they should be soft touch. A slight deviation resulting from a hard press would result in moving the red laser dot and thus cause significant error in measuring distance."
