"I bought this saw after agonizing over spending 1500 to 2000 on other brands. In the end I just couldn't justify that expense so I "settled" for this saw. I should "settle" more often! Yes, the saw is remarkably heavy (about 500lb. fully dressed) and you will need friends to help move/assemble it. However, after using a contractor's saw for years and watching it tip each time I cut a long/wide piece, the weight is worth it. you can cut full sheets of plywood with no fear of tipping. My favorite feature, by far, is the fence. Once it is adjusted (a very simple task) it is dead on accurate and lightning fast to set. No more measuring the front and back of the sawblade against the fence. Just lock it and go! And the motor is strong enough to spin a blade through thick hardwoods as well. Yes, you have to square the blade. But you would do this on any saw (or, at least, you should!) so it's not like it's an extra task for this saw only. I found the deck to be flat and the saw is also surprisingly quiet (compared to my old one). Good tool overall and it's the best buy on the market!"

Good saw,June 24, 2009
By mudbug99from WV
"Finally, after 10 years of using a $200 Craftsman saw for furniture, and borrowing friends' saws every now and again, I decided it was time to get a decent saw. Overall, this saw is great, although the factory assembly leaves a lot to be desired and there are a few other minor issues. Pros: -Very powerful for a relatively low HP saw. It cannot compete with the 3+ HP monsters, but it does 1" thick oak fairly well, and 3/4" oak very well. -Quiet, one of the quietest saws I've used. -The fence is just about perfect. -Low vibration. -Easy to align (at least mine was, but some reviewers seem to have found differently). -The Biesemeyer extension, while cheap wood, can be tossed to give a great place to mount a router table for those of us with space problems. -Easy to remove blade guard.
Cons: -The factory assembly was awful, several things, including the blade elevation and tilt mechanisms, were not assembled properly. Looks like someone forgot to tighten all the set screws, the blade elevation didn't even work out of the box. Quality control people! -No riving knife, but there is a blade guard assembly that does OK for some purposes. -They include a Biesemeyer fence, it likely would not add much to the cost to put a good miter gauge in as well. The stock one is OK, but not great. -Tabletop is not perfectly flat, but not off enough to be a problem. -Slight arbor play. -Inconvenient locking system for elevation and tilt handles - turning the lock can turn the handle too. -Outfeed table cannot be adjusted high enough to actually support anything, its about 1/4 inch below the table. -Arbor not long enough to take a 3/4 inch dado blade."

"I have had this saw going on 5 years. I own a large cabinet shop in Charleston SC and have been using the saw for production the whole time I have owned it. Saw is a bit weak ripping hardwoods but works well on sheet goods. Also have Jet cabinet saw which is far more powerful but lacks the ease of use that comes with the Biesemeyer fence. Overall love the saw if it was 3hp would be awesome. The saw will take the abuse, My saw has probably cut somewhere in the range of 50,000 sheets of 3/4 maple plywood and hundreds of thousands of feet of maple lumber. I really cant complain. Thinking of upgrading the motor this year to 3hp and triple belts. will keep the saw though until it just cant work anymore. I would recommend this saw to anyone who wants to upgrade from a contractor style saw without paying the price. I figure this saw will pay for itself in the average shop in around 2-3 months. I figure mine has paid for itself 300 times over great great saw. Just take your time with it and it will produce well cut lumber and sheet goods. If you have never used a beisemeyer fence you will be blown away. Dustin"

"This is a great saw. The assembly manual says to use two people to lift and assemble the saw (425 lbs.) I had no help available so I used a portable shop hoist to unload and move the saw. It took me about a half day to assemble and adjust the saw but once I made all the adjustments, it is dead on accurate. I found no problems with any hardware or parts. Everything went together as advertised and the instructions were easy to follow"

Solid Machine,December 26, 2008

"I purchased this saw in September 2008, but decided to wait on writing my review until I had a few hours on it. So far I have been very happy with my purchase. Set up took me a little longer than most, but I wanted to make sure it was set up 100%. Cutting with the saw has made a huge differnce in my projects. This is also the first saw that I have left the guard on, it works terrific. No binding after beveling the blade. One thing I need to get is a good dust collector. Currently I am using a shop vac and adapters, but the vac doesn't clean out the cabinet much. I bought mine on sale during club sale so I saved alot, but after using it, I think it is a worth while investment at around $950, I can't see paying full retail. I was originally going to run mine on 220, but found out that unless you use it daily it doesn't pay to convert. Great saw and hopefully Craftsman keeps up the quality products they have been turning out lately."

10" professional table saw,November 23, 2008
By boatmanwjbfrom Lafitte, La.
"I just recently bought one after a lot of reseach on the web & in many magazines such as Consumer Reports & the like with info. on many table saws. I'm just a hobbyist but I like using dependable tools. It took about 3hrs. to set up but it gave me time to review all the info about my new saw. Most of my tools are Craftsman but I have others but this one is like owning a cadillac. I reccomend this saw to any contractor. Its very quite, smooth, & the fence is great. The accuracy of the motor set up to the table top was excellent. The only draw back I see is the bolts & nuts that come with are reg. iron they should be stainless to prevent rusting so if you have to work on it you will be able to. Other than that its a great saw."

Great starter table saw,October 27, 2008
By mike2535from Atlanta, Gerogia
"I have used this table saw for 2 years and it has been a joy over my cheap contractor style saw. It has the power to plow through any wood at a decent rate and is built well with a very good fit and finish. The fence is the best made and was easy to adjust to the blade. The miter gauge is OK, but could be approved on due to the odd additions that come with it. Overall this saw is well worth the name Craftsman Professional and I have built some fine furniture projects with it. When I got it home the cast iron extensions bolt holes were drilled wrong. Sears customer service passed me onto an expert and he shipped me free new extension wings no questions asked. My recommendation is buy if you are wanting to step up to a better saw!"

Substandard quality product,July 4, 2008
By applejackfrom South Texas
"BOught this saw and set it up. Checked the alignment of the blade with a machinist square and there was not enough adjustment in the mounts to allow the blade to align to zero degrees so instead of lugging the 400 lb saw back to the store I had to drill out the mounts of the motor to allow enough movement. Got that done, then tried to install the adjustable feet, well what a problem, the adjustable feet threads were differrent than the threads tapped into the bottom of the saw, busted one off and had to drill it out and thread to a larger size and buy new mounts. Sears was of no help in this regard. The customer service rep just said I should have brought it back to the store and exchanged it for another. Easy to say on the other end of the phone when you don't have to reload and unload the 400 lb saw again. Craftsman power tools continue to drop in quality. This is the last Craftsman power tool I will ever buy"

Great Cabinet Features!,June 5, 2008
By tolltimetfrom Deep South
"The Craftsman 22124 saw has many useful features I wanted: regular 110 volt operation, fully enclosed cabinet for effective sawdust removal, out feed table, quick release guard-splitter assembly, miter gauge clamp-crosscut fence, large cabinet door, wide 18" rip left of blade, Leitz 40T blade, weight close to the 3hp cabinet saws, excellent T-square Fence system, small cabinet footprint, and HD-Cabinet Mounted Trunnions. The industry calls it a "Hybrid"...a cross between the very common light duty contractor saws vs the heft, power and stability of the full size cabinet saws. Make no mistake, this saw is Much closer to it's big brothers than to contractor saws. It shares all the positives of the big cabinet saws without their higher prices or 220v power needs!
It was well packaged, wrapped in a shroud of 1" tubular steel. I used a whole day in assembling the saw, enjoying the process and ensuring that it all went together right. The table was perfectly square to the blade and the fence was a breeze to square to the miter slots. The cast side tables mated well to the main table with the main table flatness near perfect and the C.I. wings at a respected .003”. The fence is Rock Solid, yet glides Very Smoothly with little effort when making cutting adjustments! Arbor flange run out was less than.001" and the saw’s 425# weight adds to it’s stability and quietness. In operation, there is virtually no vibration…the saw easily passes the start-stop nickel test. I find it runs real smooth and has plenty of power ripping 3\4 sheet goods and 8\4 oak. In all, the saw works very well and looks great in my workshop. I really like it!
With the features-quality-value it offers, I feel the 22124 rivals the big cabinet saws in the most important areas of performance and was my best choice of all the hybrid table saws. It should serve me well for many years to come!"

As good as it gets...,June 2, 2008
By CraftsmanFanStevefrom Stanley, WI
"I purchased this saw a few weeks ago and I don't think it can get any better for the money. It was a big job to get it setup. I didn't have anybody handy to help, so I unloaded it and set it up by myself with a 2 wheel dolly. I wouldn't recommend doing that - get a friend to help if you can. I'm a big guy and it was at the extreme edge of my capabilities to lift and control the different parts during assembly. I used clamps and support sticks to aide with the extensions. The motor tension spring had fallen off during shipping, I was able to replace that by looking at the exploded diagram in the manual. I didn't get the wax on the table right away and a few tiny rust specs appeared about 2 weeks later. I was able to buff them out, but I would recommend getting the paste wax on the table right away. This saw cuts like a hot knife through butter. I'm very happy with the included Leitz blade and the Beismeyer fence is awesome!! Once it is dialed in, it is perfect, perfect, perfect. No need for a ruler to make a cut, place the fence on the measurment you want and cut with confidence. This saw is extremely quiet and smooth running. I expect to be using it for many years with great results. If you're thinking of buying the next saw down, wait until you can afford to get this one - it is worth the extra cash!"

Good deal but some problems,May 26, 2008
By tomtom67from wisconsin
"After a year or more of trying to decide what table saw to buy, I decided on the craftsman 22114, one step below the 22124. I purchased it online to get 20% off. The next day I stopped in to the local Sears where I would be picking it up, just to find out roughly what size crate I would be dealing with when I picked it up. Talked to a salesman about it who went and got his manager. The manager then offered me the 22124 saw for the same price. Someone had returned one because it had a small scratch in the top, which you could not even feel. Got it home , put it together, but could not get the blade aligned square to the miter slot (heeling). The store sent out a Sears tech who did not fix it , he thought he did but did not know what he was doing in my estimation. I ended up having to elongate the holes in the cabinet to get it right. I should not have had to do this but figured it was easier than returning the saw. It's a nice saw but I'm giving it three stars because of the problems and having nothing else to compare it to."

From a shop to my home,April 15, 2008

"I used to work in a professional shop and after I was laid off and still wanted to do some work with a saw, I researched everything and really wanted the Biesemeyer fence. This saw is worth every penny (and I got mine on sale for a great deal!!) We had the same fence system, only bigger, in the shop so I knew that was good, but the saw it self is so nice and professional and I would say the best part is when you lower and raise the blade, it self adjusts the tension and you just keep cutting. It is HEAVY too, so be prepared, but I put mine on wheels and it rolls around great! The only saw I could recommend more then this is the STOP SAW for 3X the price."

Best Value Great Saw,April 6, 2008
By CKSawzfrom Nampa Idaho
"After 6 months of reading and trying different saws, and many weekend discussions with my brother in law of whom is a manager in a high end cabinet shop... I "still went Craftsman!" There are many other saws out there, and you can pay a ton more... Buy this saw on sale or at full price and you won't be disappointed! Some other reviews have mentioned the table being "off" by .005 on the table top and wings etc... First, this isn't a $3,000 cabinet saw ...it was 1/3 of that at full price! It has the best fence on the market, and comes with a great blade! I was patient and directly after assembly and lining up the fence, with no further adjustments, cut 1"X12" square strips of black walnut...it passed as fast as one would want to saw...safely. I used digital calipers to measure pieces afterwards, .003 difference! In the "worst" ones. Take your time during assembly...it took me 4hrs alone, including changing the motor to run on 240 which was easy. The instructions are clear and simple, start to finish. Everything about this saw has been excellent! A walnut box built same day on this saw had joints as tight as if a joiner planed them! I'm thrilled and my brother in law ran the saw and can't believe the value for the high quality. For the savings I outfitted my shop with a 14" Craftsman bandsaw (another super value for the high quality!) A dust collection system and 6"Belt sander!"

Very Pleased,January 19, 2008
By Philnfrom Taylorville, IL
"I had read all of the reviews prior to making my purchase and have been looking for the last two years. There is a review that I read and could not help but laugh. The issues with my contractor saw tipping when handleing large sheets, adjusting the fence and clamping it in place. Well, I suffered through all of those and I am so thrilled that I finally spent the money on this saw. The price of this saw does not convey the quality. I can not say enough about the fence, I simply set the fence and cut the same size every time without having to check or resquare the fence. As far as the set up, I did not find that to be an issue. I spent just about four hours total and that includes getting the fence set. I have cut over thirty sheets of plywood, most 3/4 inch and some 1/2 inch and did half lap on 2x4's with my dado blade and the saw is fantastic. The arbor is too short for me to run my stacked dado at the full 3/4 inch width but with the fence I simply make the first pass and move the fence 1/16th to the right and it's done. I can deal with that. I am sure that you will not be dissatisfied with this purchase. The only improvement could be the 50 inch fence and a better mitre fence which I will replace in the future."

"I just loved the way this saw worked right out of the crate that is was packed in. After inital setup I was able to cut 3"X6" hardwood slices as thin as a paper. I mean as thin as paper in a real sense without riping up the wood. The only thing that I have discovered so far that I wish was better is the flatness of the top. It won't stand up to a straight edge test. I think that is a great buy and should stand up to the test of time for me, as I use it everyday in my shop. Tim the toolman"

"This saw has been the mainstay of my shop since the day I bought it. My experience with it has been nothing but good. I've been using it for over 2 years now and it still performs like the first day I turned it on. The only draw back I have found is the scale used to indicate the tilt of the blade, but I use a gauge to set this anyway so it is really a non-issue. For the price, it has been one of the best purchases I have made and I would definitely buy it again should I need another saw!!"

"I bought this saw when they first came out and got the introductory price and it was cheaper than name brand contractor saws. I've used it daily and am very satisified. It is a hybrid but has the trunions mounted to the cabinet, so alignment of the miter slot/blade is only 4 bolts. I've ripped 4" walnut with the blade buried without bogging down or burning. The motor has plenty of power and the Biesemeyer fence is top of the line. I know of at least 4 of these saws have been bought by fellow woodworkers in my area. Even after almost 3 years, this saw is still tops in it's field for price/performance."

"The 22124 successfully bridges the huge gap between the shortcomings a of a traditional contractor saw and the overkill and power requirements of a full 3hp industrial cabinet saw. It offers many of the advantages of a big cabinet saw but will run on a standard 110v circuit, and doesn't tax the budget as heavily. - The Biesemeyer Commercial grade fence is often touted as the number one in the industry. It's the same fence that comes standard on many $1900 Unisaws and $2500 General 650s, and is the most copied design on the market for higher end saws. With the twin 12" cast iron wings, plus a laminated extension table, the usable table surface is nearly 60" wide. The rip capacity is 30" to the right of the blade and 18" to the left in it's stock configuration, but if you don't need that much capacity to the left, it's very simple to slide the rails 10" to the right for a capacity of 40" to the right. The foldup outfeed table is a convenience for supporting longer work pieces. - The dust collection from the fully enclosed cabinet is a huge improvement over a traditional open back contractor saw with the motor sticking out the back. The internally mounted motor of the 22124 takes up less space, and doesn't pose the high risk of hitting or lifting surrounding items when the motor is bevelled, which greatly reduces the chance of knocking out the alignment. - The cabinet mounted trunnions are a significant departure from the puny table mounted trunnions on most contractor saws. This mounting style is much more similar to the methods used by the industrial cabinet saws. They add considerable mass and stability, and are much simpler to reach and adjust for blade alignment....sure beats laying under the saw trying to tap the trunnions into alignment with a hammer and 2x4! The connection rods are much beefier too, and I've read that they're indexed to prevent twisting. - The short serpentine belt is not only quieter than a standard v-belt but also offers more efficient power transfer. The 22124 won't match the power of a big 3hp Powermatic 66 or Delta Unisaw for industrial use, but with good alignment and a good blade it'll cut readily to full blade height (without requiring a 220v outlet). It's extremely well suited to the hobbyist....newbie and veteral alike. - The miter gauge has fairly average accuracy, but does offer miter slot adjustments to reduce slop in the track, and it also offers a very nice miter fence with an effective hold down clamp. Another terrific convience is the large paddle on/off switch, which allows both hands on the workpiece while quick nudge of the leg turns off the saw. The stock Leitz blade is a gem for a stock blade and is worth keeping and using. - The saw is heavy...~ 425#. That makes it a bit more awkward to move alot but offers incredible stability. A mobile base is a terrific option if you need to wheel it around the shop. There are several aftermarket mobile bases available, including one from Sears. The throat plate opening is the same size as the popular Delta Unisaw, meaning that inserts made to fit that saw will also fit your 22124. - I'm not crazy about the plastic handles on the handwheels, but that's an easy beef to live with compared to many of the other well thought features. This saw has a great deal in common with the Steel City hybrids and are both a significant improvement over the nearly 60 year old design of the traditional contractor saw. Kudos to the designers for the innovations they introduced. Mine's been in use for over 2 years now, and is the 6th saw I've owned and is one of over 10 that I've used, and it continues to impress."
