"I make furniture, toys, etc. mostly for my family members. As I was working on Christmas presents early last December, my $169 portable table saw gave out completely, right in the middle of sawing a door panel (probably more than the poor thing could take, but that's another story). Being in desperate need of a table saw to finish the work, I remembered that this saw was available in the current Craftsman Club promotion. I looked up the promotional price, figured I could afford it, and went online to order. First thing I discovered was that I got an additional discount for ordering it at Sears.com on a Saturday. Moreover, I could pick it up at my local store, so no shipping charges. Wow, I put it in the cart and checked out. Simply put, I got a real bargain on this saw, but the saw itself is no slackard.
The saw does require some assembly, and you should plan on spending two to three hours or more doing so. You should also get someone to help as the pieces are heavy and one step of the assembly process requires turning the saw upside down then rightside up again. Also, exercise care and patience. It is well worth it in the long run.
After getting the saw home, and with my son's help, uncrated and assembled, I went back to work on my interrupted project. What a dream it was to use this saw. The motor is so quiet that the air whistling through the rotating blade makes more noise than the motor. Even with the original blade, I got nice smooth, accurate cuts. I finished my projects faster and with much better results than I would have otherwise.
I have made good use of the saw over the last several months on other projects I am doing. I have purchased and made several accessories including a dado blade set and dado insert, a crosscutting sled, and an outfeed table. I still working up the courage to spend $100 on a blade, but that too will come since a major home renovation project looms larger and larger in the future.
I highly recommend this saw to serious do-it-yourselfer. You will not regret it, I promise."

"I have been building furniture (bookcases, wine racks, etc.) from wood for many years as a hobby. I have used multiple table saws and also assembled many other types of table saws. The engineering of the Craftsman table saws supercedes any other brands I have used. The stability of the saws base and the weight of the saw make it possible to cut large pieces of lumber in a safe manner (that is if you have all the proper safety measures still on the saw and can safely maneuver the lumber). The quite operation is amazing (I was surprised the first time I used the Saw). The large cast iron working surface and guide and the strength of the motor allow a user to cut through thicker hardwoods quite easily. This saw also has many attachments that add more versatility to the saw making it even more usefully for even the hobbits or the professional. I would recommend this saw for anyone to purchase, it is worth the $$."

"I have had this saw for a year now and it has been a joy and fun to use. It is important to take the time on set up so that you end up with a tool that gives you excellent repeatable cuts. Like any tool, heavy use calls for to check blade alignment. Keep the fences squared and the result are very good cuts.
The only weakness is the Micro Adjust Assemble, takes too much effort to use, a slight tap moves the fence just as good."

"I have had this saw for two years now. First project was rebuilding stairs in oak. Saw went through the oak like butter. Took my time setting it up. Only the rip fence needed minor adjustment.Cuts are extremely accurate. May not be what the serious high end cabinet maker wants but for the rest of us you can't go wrong."

"Well I have built cabinets and have done other woodworking projects. But the time came when I needed a new saw and after comparing Dewalt, Jet and Skill I discovered that this saw had the most “BANG” for the buck. Make no mistake this thing is HEAVY. Bring help and a truck to take it home. Setup was quick and straight forward. The owners manual is done up nicely with photos and tips. I did however after using it for a week upgrade the fence to a BIESEMEYER and the miter gauge to a Kregs precision unit. The saw cuts like butter through any hardwood and wont hesitate or stall. Thanks to the large dust collection port in back hookup to my dust collector was fast and painless. This is the perfect saw for any small to mid sized shop"

"I wanted to upgrade from my Craftsman benchtop table saw and this saw seemed like alot of bang for the $$ buck! This saw has it all and you won't do much better unless you spend several hundred dollars more. It does require some assembly and you should set aside an afternoon to do so. The accessories that come with it are as close to top-notch as you're going to get without going after-market. The fence slides and adjusts like dream. The miter gage, extension and stop work well and are only limited by the fact that you can't extend the stop beyond the 22" extension. For average sized projects, it's hard to beat. I did upgrade to an after-market miter gauge & extension. My only complaint is minor. The supplied miter gauge isn't quick for adjustments (but not frustrating) because you'll need your allen wrench. I've build several projects with it -including kitchen cabinets and couldn't ask for more."

"I recently purchased this saw for my workshop at my office after burning up the third motor in my 20 year old previous craftsman saw. Being under the workload of heavy construction I have to say that this saw has outperformed my expectations. I have ran this saw for over eight hours a day for the past three days cutting beveled edges into over 6000 feet of ruff sawn 2x4 pine for forms. I really had expected to burn through another motor but after going through 4 blades the job is done. Solid buy, Im very happy"

"Like others have said, for the money, I don't think you can beat this saw. I've had mine for 2 years. The first year I ran it on 110v... 220 the next. I highly recommend 220. It's very quiet, solid, and accurate (if set up properly). I've heard bad things about the blade that comes with it. But I found it to be good. (I've replaced the furniture cuts with a Freud). Since buying this saw I have used some friend's comparable Delta and Rigid saws. I feel this Craftsman is superior. I especially love the slotted fence... instead of clamping attachments to it, I use t bolts. I initially had some problems keeping rust off the table (garage) but I found a product that works great. The Delta seems to have a more mirrored table surface so it may be less prone to the rust (not sure). A professional woodworking friend stopped in and approached my saw with a smirk... but after inspecting it and a few runs, he was genuinely impressed. Great saw.... great value."

"I purchesed this saw on black friday. It was hard to pass up @ 20% off. The saw was easy to set-up and its heavier duty than I expected. It was startlingly quiet, being that I'm used to a benchtop direct drive. A dust collection set-up is a must! With the enclosed base it fills up very quick-expecially with a dado blade. I really am having fun with this saw. My only quams are the miter gauge is off and hard to correct, and the plastic dust shield on the side is tough to get open. Otherwise a great addition to my woodshop!!"

"I have a craftsman table saw that I have owned for many years. When it started giving me trouble I decided to replace it with another craftsman. I bought this saw, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! I knew it was heavy but this made it very difficult to assemble. The fence is a front clamp, the back of the fence moved about a 1/2 each way. When I finally got it assembled and turned it on the vibration was a pretty scarey thing. I retuned this saw and have no intention of buying another craftsman saw. Craftsman quality used to be the best, but they sure cannot make that claim now."

"A great saw that takes about a half a day to setup & test. No micro adjustments were required. The saw is a precision built tool. The universal mobile base is a necessity. The saw runs quiet and cuts oak like butter. Buy some spare nuts / bolts for assembly. I ended up with SAE and Metric nuts and bolts mixed in unequal amounts so you end up striping bolts and spending time trying to sort metric bolts from SAE bolts and SAE nuts from metric nuts. I actually ended up using the bolts from the steel shipping container because they worked better than the bolts that came with the saw!"

"After doing some research, I landed on this table saw. I evaluated the Jet, Delta, and others, but for the price, couldn't beat this Craftsman.
Lots of useful assessories included (really find the miter gauge extension handy). Since I use my garage as a shop, I added the mobile base so I could easily roll it around. While not the Beizer, the fence system is very accurate and solid. The 1.5 hp motor provides plenty of power as long as you have the correct blade installed. The only knock I have against the saw is the dust builds up in the enclosed housing. Not a big deal and may be because I am using a shop vac vs. a real dust collector.
Have owned it now for about 6 months and overall, couldn't be happier."

"I looked at a lot of saws before deciding on this unit. Getting it for $566.00 played a part in making my decision. It came with the stock blade, and a mail-in rebate for an 18 T crosscut and 60T fine cut blade. I have used everything from a 1 HP direct drive to a friends 5HP Unisaw with a Beismeyer fence. The Craftsman obviously won't do what the Unisaw can do, but it is a great saw for the money. I compared it with models from Jet, Delta, Hitachi, and Rigid. If you take the time to set up the saw (took me and a friend about 6 hours) it will make very accurate, repeatable cuts. We attached the cast iron table extensions while the saw was sitting upside down, I think this made that part of the assembly much easier. The fence is not a Beismeyer, but it is very accurate, I can set it and get repeatable cuts within 1/32". It clamps down only on the front rail, like the Biesemayer, so it stays square. For routine cuts I don't have to measure, I just set the fence to what I need, and that's what I get. I like the auxiliary fence, it makes crosscutting with a fence much safer. The miter gauge, extension and holdown are ok too. Just take your time to make make sure to adjust the miter gauge locks down square and at 45 degrees. I don't have DC, so I can't rate that, most of the sawdust ends up inside cabinet so it is pretty easy to keep clean. I have the saw sitting on the Sears mobile caster set, and it works well, even on my rough garage floor. As others have said, plan on waxing the cast iron to keep it from rusting, I finally broke down and put on Boeshield T9 which worked well. I haven't had the saw long enough to rate its reliability, but beased on how it is put together, I am expecting it to last a long time"

Great Upgrade from contractors saw,January 10, 2008

"After 8 long years of talking myself into and then out of, buyig a better table saw I finally did it. I had a small craftsman 10" contract saw that I custom built a deck for that had seen on the New yankee workshop. It added a bunch of rip capacity to the right and some out feed room, but thats about it. I have built some cabinets in our home and the entertainment centers in the main living room but was never been really happy with how the saw cut larger panels or hardwood. This saw was the answer to all my problems and I knew it on the first cut. Besides it being super quiet in comparison to the direct drive I had it also cuts through 3/4 panels and oak without even breathing hard. The miter gauge and rip fence are far beyond the dinky things you get on a contract saw. If your thinking of doing any woodwork beyond ripping 2x4's or very basic stuff I suggest this saw as a great mid range saw with allot of the features you'll see in the expensive units. Also it doesn't hurt that all the assc. you can imagine are down the street at the local sears."

"The process of owning this saw has been crazy. Be prepared to take one or two back to the store and maybe even drive to other stores to pick one up that finally works. The first one I bought wasn't even close to alignment. As far as I could adjust the table top to the blade still left me off by almost a 1/16th of an inch from front to back of the blade. Waited a week for repair to come out and look at it for 2 seconds and tell me to take it back. So, all 400lbs back up the stairs from my basement, back to the store to find out they were out of stock, but I could drive 45 minutes to the only other store around to pick up their last one. Finally, got the saw in the basement, finally got everything lined up, which took a LONG time by myself, and got to make some saw dust. WOW. All I can say. That being said, I put a brand new Diable combo blade on it instead of the factory one. The fence is ok. Don't drop it, because it's pretty soft aluminum. The miter guage is kinda junk. one of the plastic knobs already cracked with not much pressure. Overall, this saw cuts 3/4 birch plywood and 4/4 oak boards like a hot knive through butter. Never slows down. Haven't had it long enough to tell if it will handle larger stock though. If I could improve this saw, I would give it some options: Fence upgrade (Biese or Unifence), table wing extensions, outfeed table, etc. Also, wouldn't it be nice to actually have ALL the things you need to run a table saw, like a featherboard, some push boards/sticks, a few zero clearance blanks, etc? I know they are inexpensive and many people prefer to make their own, but it's the little things that go a long way. I got the saw at a great deal during a 3-day sale for $573. At that price it's a steal. For $700 though, you might want to look around. If this saw had another 12 inches of cut, and some necessary items to actually use the saw as mentioned above, it would be almost perfect. Add a Biesemeyer fence, it WOULD be perfect."

"I purchased an older model of this saw about 12 years ago while finishing off my upstairs. It has been 100% reliable, have only had to replace the belt. I am currently using it to build new kitchen cabinets. Miters on the doors are virtually seamless. I've made lots of furniture with miters, dadoes, mortises & tenons and this saw has performed exquisitely. Since the original purchase, I've bought a few accessories such as a molding head, adjustable dado blade, a second miter gage and I've made several accessories including a cross-cut box, taper gage, flush cutting rip fence, circle cutting jig. I would recommend this saw to anyone whose looking for a serious table saw. Mine is the pride of my shop. The only thing I would improve about my saw is the rip fence. On the older model it only extends to the right of the blade. Some day I am going to upgrade to a full rip fence. If you need a table saw, you won't regret purchasing this one."

"I know many woodworkers--hobbyists and professionals alike--that prefer the so-called "professional brands" of power tools over Craftsman... which some seem to think of as a lower end brand. However, let me tell you this saw can hang in there and even outperform some of the "big boy" brands. I am an amateur woodworker who makes everything from fine jewelery boxes to large furniture items. I have had this saw for about a year and IT IS FANTASTIC!!! Previously I had a smaller saw and upgraded to this one... WOW! The ease of use, accuracy, power, and overall design of this saw leaves very little to be desired. I can plow through 8/4 oak with no problem, then turn around and cut accurate finger joints with finesse. In the interest of being thorough, the only complaints I have (and this is really nit-picking) are: 1) the fence while good, does tend to deflect under pressure a little more than I would like. However, there's always room to upgrade. 2) The bevel indicator is not close enough to the indicator markings, making it a little tricky to get used to, but the smoothness of the trunnions more than make up for it. Overall I would recommend this saw to anyone; amateur and experienced alike. You can't beat the price--especially when it comes up on a Craftsman Club Sale. Upgrade to this one and you won't be disappointed!"

The only saw that can compare or beat this saw is made by Grizzly and I didn't feel like driving to the nearest retailer in Pennsylvania. This saw is solid, stable, easy to assemble (with 2 people), and best of all it performs like saws that cost alot more, and I only had to drive 4 miles to get it."
