"This is a terrific value for the money. It performs as well if not better than other brands costing up to twice as much. It is easy to use and has safety first features. Do not see why anybody would want a non-sliding mitre saw (that most others sell for about same as this) when they can have this one."

Awesome!! I wish I had one years ago!, July 1, 2009
By Fusefinder from Germantown, Ohio

"I have a Craftsman compound miter saw already. I bought this to use installing vinyl siding. Worked Great for Siding and Soffit. Payed for itself in time saved.
After 400sq ft the laser got blurry, like out of focus. I called customer service. They recommended cleaning with alcohol and Q-tip, nice and bright again.

Craftsman Man, June 5, 2009
By CraftmanLover from Barrington, Nj

"I just bought this saw a few days ago to do my hardwood floor. I tried it and it works great with a powerful 3hp motor. The laser track is a big help but the dust bag is a joke. Unbeatable price of $170 compare to other brands."

Darn good saw, June 3, 2009
By wibbond from Evansville, IN

"I bought this saw 3 days ago and it's great. The laser is bright enough to work outside in the sunlight. Good clean cuts and thanks for the tip on using the slider from the outside in."

Miter saw, June 3, 2009
By Ibnfshn from Chesapeake, Va

"So far appears to be a good saw for the money. The dust bag must be for decoration only and the lazer light leaves a lot to be desired. Its not focused and impossible to see in bright sunlight."

Good Saw., May 31, 2009
By Anonymous from Bow, nh

"I Just bought this saw a few days ago and it works great. the laser is very useful and yes sometimes it needs to be cleaned off with the swipe of a finger, but how much work is that? also the dust collection works somewhat, the bag fills up so it must work. but what would you expect it's a saw..plus um used to a chainsaw so anything is better."

Correct saw cutting, May 27, 2009
By sawdust21 from AZ

"I read with interest, all the complaints of dust not collecting in the bag. Few people realize you don't use a sliding miter saw like you do a radial saw. You insert your material, you slide the saw out beyond the edge of the piece, start the motor, push down on the saw, and push back through the material. You'll collect a lot more dust and produce a smoother cut. If you don't believe this, read the articles in your woodworking magazines."

Great buy, May 26, 2009
By Anonymous from Lanse, MI

"The saw works great and is easy to adjust. The one feature that works poorly is the dust collector. After making a number of cuts on wood I had to clean off the lazer. It was covered with wood dust and was not visible on the cutting surface. A quick wipe with a soft cloth was all that was necessary to continue. Though not perfect, I still think this is a great buy."

far more than I expected, May 25, 2009
By WernersvilleGuy from Reading, PA

"For the money, I expected a so-so saw with so-so accuracy so-so durability and many annoying design flaws.

What I go was a great saw with great accuracy fantastic durability and very few annoying habits. I've had this saw for a couple years now and honestly, most of the time-it sits and does nothing. But, once in a while I give it a heck of a workout. 3/4" oak floor didn't even make it blink. But what really got me was this last project. I really beat on that motor with some gummy nasty pressure treated pine. I was notching some 6x6s (which I had to cut half on the draw) Really made the motor grunt. Hard enough that the breaker popped. Once I re-set the breaker ( and turned off a few lights) I went right back to work and finished the job. The deck has a herringbone top which gave many opportunities to test the miter accuracy. It passed the test with flying colors.

Can't say enough about this saw. I got all my money's worth out of it and then some.

The only annoying habits are the laser-not quite bright enough (to be fair, could be related to all the gunk on the lens.) and the guard has started sticking in the closed position. -- both fairly minor issues.

Great saw, great bargain price, May 20, 2009
By RoverKid from Sandy, Utah

"Have used this saw for 4 weeks, for cutting both lumber and aluminum (window screen frames). All cuts were precision true and effortless. The laser guide is a great asset and very visible except when outside in bright sun. The dust collector is worthless and should be redesigned. For occassional home use and the price, I would highly recommend this sliding chop saw."

Good saw for the dollars, May 14, 2009
By NJWoody from New Jersey

"This was to replace my old B&D Radial Saw which I began to have problems with. Purchased for $171.00 + tax with the Craftsman Club discount which seemed like a good price. No problems with the handles, I trued all angles per the manual and did some baseboard trim work which was correct on all angles. The bag is useless and after 2 hours not one piece of saw dust collected so I covered the hole and put the bag away. Would buy this again and from what I see it's decent for the $$ spent. At 249.00 probably not, but 171 was fine. Perfect for my home needs and I don't see any problems (Laser is fine except for bright direct sunlight)"

Great Miter Saw, April 22, 2009
By jf123 from Orange, California

"I read all postings here before deciding to try this Miter saw.

It is great! All alignments were dead on target right out of the box which surprised me. I bought it for crown and baseboard molding which are 6-7 inches and the cuts are perfect.

Like others, the dust bag does not work and the laser beam is weak, but I was able to see it outdoors, so it's not great, but I can see it.

Overall, for 199.99, this is super buy.

Very Handy Saw, April 1, 2009
By wd8dsb from Indianapolis

"Have been using this saw for 5 months, and am very pleased with this purchase. Dust collection does not work, and the laser failed right away, but the overall performance of the saw is hard to beat for the price. Paid $169.99 which appears to be the lowest sales price that Sears offers from time to time (around X-mas).

My handles have not broken, but I am careful to avoid shock to the saw when moving it from place to place. I did see a hair line crack on one of my slide guard plastic mounting flanges, and it appears that the bolt was tightened too much at the factory. Would not surprise me that the handles on the ones that break are due to the same problem.

Overall a great value, and I would certainly buy it again.

Very good miter saw, March 16, 2009
By JayCG from King George, VA

"I only have a few complaints about this miter saw -- I am otherwise very happy with it. Some of the specifics include:

1. Laser is useless. Even if it were on target, its position behind the blade means it gets gummed up with sawdust and must be cleaned off every few cuts.
2. Fence is misaligned - rather hard to explain, but if you take the fence off and lay its face flat on a table, you can tell it's about a degree off from left to right. Not a significant defect if you're cutting studs, but it's obvious in precision cuts - 45 degree angle corners are a nightmare. Options include removing & pounding it even with a hammer, trying to get a replacement piece, or (like I did) building a new fence out of oak.
3. Some saw motion is difficult. Doing a straight chop is not smooth due to blade guard.

Overall, however, it's a good saw - I've owned it for about a year now, and I haven't experienced any other issues. Power, endurance, and ease of cutting oversize pieces is excellent. This unit also NEEDS to be mounted, so either buy or build one.

Good for the price, March 9, 2009
By qbob from Minneapolis, MN

"Have had the saw for a few weeks and have used it mostly to cut oak flooring to size.

I had read some reviews about the handles breaking - no problems on mine. Squaring everything was a bit of a pain, but once done, it seems to stay squared up. The slide mechanism is decent, but I don't think would hold up well for rugged use. I have my saw permanently mounted to a table, so I don't see any long term usability issues.

Overall the build quality is good. Cuts seem to remain true throughout the slide range. Included blade is adequate to get started.

The only flaw on my unit is the laser doesn't always turn on. Playing with the switch a little will fix.

Paid $199 on sale. Good value for the money. Good saw for the homeowner or hobbyist. If you're a pro - keep looking.

By archerman from montgomery, al

"i have owned the saw for about 18 months and use it for hobby and home maintenance. the saw cuts great.

the dust collection system is a joke, as sawdust goes everywhere but in the bag.

today, i picked the saw up by the handles for what was probably the 4th time and both the motor handle and the rear handle broke - just snapped off. luckily, it was only about 6" above the floor at the time. so $20 later and with some aggravation, i will have it working again in about 10 days. picking up the saw by the carrying handles is definitely not recommended. a more durable set of handles is really needed.

good saw not great, January 19, 2009
By honestlyinsane from blandford,ma

"Love the saw.
My wife got if for me for xmas . It was on sale for 179.99
My advice would be if you can get it for this cheap buy it. Its a good buy. I am disappointed that the dust bag is useless but I knew that going in because I read the reviews. Mine cuts well I
checked all the angles for home owner use its great.
I think where people give this saw bad ratings is there are using it like it is a pro saw.
If I were paying full price I might look elsewhere though.

Craftsman's Slipping, January 19, 2009
By dbyers from Hastings, MI

"I purchased this saw after killing a cheap model on home restoration. Directly out of the box the angles were right on, upon attempting to make a cut one of the guard screws fell out obviosly stripped due to poor design. The problem with the dust collection is also a design flaw I taped a small piece of cardboard to the rear of the blade housing and noticed a huge increase in the sawdust actually making it in the bag. I grew up on craftsman tools but as cheap labor moves in on every aspect of life i'm afraid quality isn't what it used to be."
