"I did tons of comparison shopping before buying this compressor and nothing else came close to the performance it offered. I really wanted a quiet compressor because my old porter cable pancake compressor would leave your ears ringing after it ran every 5 minutes. This compressor is very quiet, you can be in the same room with it and it is quieter than pretty much every vacuum cleaner i've ever been around. I've used it for framing nailers, air hammers, and blow guns so far without it missing a beat. I can use a blow gun to blow dust out of all of my tools for 5 to 10 minutes at 90 psi and when I'm done, the compressor shuts off about 30 seconds after I do. I could not believe it was able to keep up with me constantly letter air out by using a blow gun. I love the tank capacity, especially since my last compressor was a 6 gallon pancake compressor. Sure this isn't as portable as one of those, but for it's size, it is surprisingly easy to maneuver around with the wheels. I would want some help before I tried to take it up or down some stairs, but this compressor is worth the money if you want a great tool."

Sadly Dissapointed,September 27, 2009
By BTfrom Austin, TX
"I have owned this compressor for 1.5 years. The compressor ran flawlessly. I was thrilled with the pressure and quiet operation. About a month ago, the compressor tripped the breaker repeatedly and eventually tripped the thermal protection on the compressor. I replaced the breaker, put in a thicker gauge wire to the outlet, replaced the starting capacitor and attempted to convert it to 220V with no success. I unfortunately did not purchase the extended warranty an am now most likely stuck with a $400 dollar pressure tank. A replacement motor is $310 from Sears Parts Direct, which is nearly the price of the entire compressor. I do not regret the purchase, as I am assuming this is one of the lemons. I would definitly encourage any would be customers to buy the extended warranty. Hopefully, customer service will help me out with returning this product..."

Best bang for the buck,August 4, 2009
By bobinraleighfrom Raleigh, NC
"I wanted an oil lubed belt driven compressor due to the longevity and quietness over the oil-less ones. Using a generic impact gun I can take off all 20 lug nuts on my car without the compressor kicking back on. Once it does it takes a few minutes to fill back up. This is about the biggest compressor you can get that will run on 120v.
I bought it on sale for around $360+ tax. An awesome deal."

"I've only owned this for a month and used it to replace the shocks on my car using a 1/2" IR impact wrench. The compressor is pretty quiet and doesn't seem to kick on too much. It comes on around 140 and off around 160. I broke it in per the instructions and have it running on a 30amp breaker. So far, so good, and I trust (for the price paid) it will still be kicking years down the road."

Fair at best......,April 23, 2009
By 9999from Warrensburg, MO
"I have had this compressor for over a year and I have not had any major trouble with it. I bought the oil that was not included and followed the break-in exactly as the owner's manual said. I think they must have lied about the cfm for this model. All of the air tools I bought were rated at or below the required cfm for this compressor but it can never keep up. It was only used for light duty projects. It is a fairly quite machine but not when it runs non-stop. It does not leak air, it just does not put out much. I would recommend a compressor with a bigger tank at least. If you want a bigger motor, you will have to run on a 220 outlet. My breaker never tripped at first, but now the compressor trips it every time and it needs to be replaced. I wish I would have bought a different model."

"I have been watching this product and its reviews for almost a year. I choose it because of size and the fact it is oil lubricated. I took it home unpacked it, put the wheels on and plugged it in. It got up to pressure rapidly and stopped of 155psi. It has held at 150psi for four days now. Not one leak or malfunction of any kind. I'm very pleased with this purchase. Bought it on sale and with the Tool Club discount it was a few cents under $400."

Quiet,March 2, 2009
By DonOfrom Sugar Land, TX.
"I owned an oil free compressor for two years prior to buying this compressor. Nobody tells you how loud the oil free compressors are. When the motor turns on you want to walk out of the garage to escape the noise. This compressor is very quiet. You can carry on a conversation while it is running. It recovers fast and will run any tool the average "do it your selfer" cares to run. The tank is large enough to run high volume tools, yet small enough to move around easily. I replaced the tank drain valve with a t-handle valve which is much easier to open and close compared to the round one that comes with it. I would recommend this compressor"

Great compressor for the home,January 13, 2009
By slednutfrom Chicago, Il
"Got this compressor about 1 month ago and have used it extensively on the weekends.
The thing to understand is this is not a huge compressor and will not run a DA or impact non stop for any amount of time, what it does do is provides sufficient volume and pressure for most do it yourself task around the house with power to spare. The compact size has allowed me to tuck it under the stairs leading into the house completely out of the way.
Pros: Easy to assemble Quiet - can't hear it in the house Keeps up with my pace of work with any air tool
Cons:- all very minor, hardly worth mentioning Regulator is finicky Power switch is misleading, you think it is off but it it not."

"I 've been a rough carpenter for over 20 years and this is the best compressor i've ever owned. I've had a few trucks and trailers broken into and had 2 of them stolen but went right back to sears to get a new one. I run a 7 man crew with framing nailers and staple guns and it keeps up fine. I've gone through about 8 compressors over the years and this is the one iI would keep buying"

Relatively Quiet but Quality is Lacking,July 27, 2008
By Techdude49from Tampa, FL
"I purchased this compressor a little over a year ago for some light automotive work in my personal garage.
The compressor is quiet and feels solid. Moving the unit around is a snap due to the wonderful design and air filled wheels. Overall, this is a good compressor, but two things should be noted.
One, the air pressure regulator broke within 14 months. It worked fine for the 6 months that I used it, but it sat for about 8 months in my Florida garage. When I turned it on, the regulator was leaking horribly. After searching several forums, this appears to be a common issue and is not covered under the 1 year warranty.
Secondly, the compressor does not come with oil, so don't forget to fill it before you turn it on. Several owners made this mistake and greatly reduced the life expectancy."

excellent compressor,June 12, 2008

"as of may, i have owned this compressor for 1 year. in this one year i have not done one oil change or cleaned the air filter. the compressor is still running as it did when i bought it. i have used this thing in the middle of winter with no problem and in the middle of summer. ocassionally you have to empty the tank to drain water, but there isnt really all that much water there to begin with. i have had some trouble with my circuit breakers n my garage though. my 15a breaker will randomly trip, usually when the motor is starting with around 120psi in the tank. then i have to pull the safety release valve, let out a few psi and reset the breaker. its not too much of a hassle but after it happens a few times in a row, its annoying. my father and i both own this compressor and are very happy with them."

"After much research I decided to go with the 25 gal. pro model. I haven't experanced any problems others spoke of in prior reviews. No problems with the breaker box, manufacture defects or anything for that matter. It fills fast, it's QUIET, and has plenty of power for my twin hammer impact wich, by the way, is an air HOG @13 cfm. Granted, you only use short birsts but it has always kept up. I haven't had it long enough to rate it's reliability but so far I couldn't be happier. One thing though, my instruction manual didn't give any "break in " info. However, I knew about this and gave it plenty of run time with no load. (drain valve open) I think for the price it's a good value. Of corse ther are better compresors on the market, but for under $500 with extended werrenty you cant go wrong"

Works great except when it breaks!,May 5, 2008
By MDCarnutfrom PG County, MD
"I've owned 3 of these compressors in 3 months. The first one worked for 1 week and then blew a head gasket and couldn't develop any pressure - retuened it to the store for credit. The 2nd one was delivered and was heavily damaged when we opened the box (fortunately the driver took it away). The third one lasted 60 days and then started leaking oil into the air tank and into the air filter - and it wouldn't run for more than 30 seconds all the while making a metal-on-metal squealing sound. It's going back to Sears this weekend. But - when it works it's great. Quiet, strong, quick to recover pressure. If only it would last more than 60 days. Typical run time totalled 2hrs a day on Sat and Sun and nothing in between."

I should Know, I Repair them,April 14, 2008
By Forrest5from Atlanta
"I am a Sears Repair Technician with almost 40 years of experience, , and in the last 10 years, I can't remember more than one or two of these units entering our shop, (even then it was a minor thing), I have one that is over 20 years old and it is still working fine. Air leaks happen on any brand, and you just have to find them and tighten up a fitting or two. This is a great unit, it almost never breaks down, and it has the power to recover quickly. If you want a reliable air compressor, buy this one. You'll never need another one. I would recommend this unit above all competition."

Good compressor, but pressure doesn't stay at 150,March 22, 2008
By jdwoodfrom SF Bay Area
"I bought this compressor around Christmas 2007. This model (919.195411) had the old specs (2HP running, 8.6 CFM @ 40 psi and 6.8 CFM @ 90 psi) printed on the tank and on the belt guard. As stated in the manual, this one was shipped with no oil in the pump, so I had to buy a 16 fl. oz. bottle to fill the pump prior to the break-in procedure. It took a few minutes to slowly add the entire 16 fl. oz. in the crankcase. After the 20-minute break-in, the motor stopped at cut-out pressure of 150 psi. I noticed the pressure dropped very quickly to 135 psi in 30-40 seconds, slowly bled down to 130 psi in 4-5 minutes and stayed at 130 psi. Suspecting there was a leak, I sprayed soap water and found a very very tiny pinhole leak at the weld of the main fitting (large hex nut) to the tank where the check valve is connected to. I let it sit there for a whole day and the pressure didn't drop any further. Thinking that a tiny pinhole was the main cause for the initial drop from 150 to 135 psi in 30-40 seconds, I decided to return it and exchange for a new one. After opening the new box, I noticed a change in the specifications. The new model (919.195412) is rated 1.8HP running, 7.4 CFM @ 40 psi and 5.8 CFM @ 90 psi (* tested per ISO 1217) and shipped with oil already in the pump, ready for use (this can cause oil leaks if the box is not properly placed, e.g. laying the compressor on its side or upside down). This one had the same problem: after cut-out, the pressure immediately dropped from 150 to 135 psi , slowed to 130 psi and stayed there. It also had a leak at the main fitting, albeit not because of a bad weld, and was located in the outside thread of the large nut and the tank. This leak was so small that I could hardly see the bubbles with soap water. Just want to test it, I let it sit there for 2 days and the pressure didn't even drop below 130 psi. Still, I wanted to get a compressor with zero leaks and no pressure-dropping problem, so I brought it back and exchanged for another one. This third one has no leaks and is the same model (919.195412, 1.8HP, 7.4 @ 40 and 5.8 @ 90). But it still has the same problem, pressure dropping after cut-out. This seems like it is a common problem for this compressor and I'm surprised that no one had seen this and mentioned the issue in the reviews. This compressor runs on a 20-amp outlet without tripping the breaker and is very quiet. It goes from empty tank to 150 psi in about 4 minutes and recovers fairly quick from 120 to 150 psi in about 1 minute. If not for the pressure-dropping issue, I'd give it another star. I've not mentioned this: For all 3 compressors, I did have to tighten up all fittings and connections at the check valve, unloader valve, drain valve, etc., to ensure there're no air leaks. Although the first 2 compressors had very small leaks that couldn't easily be fixed, I don't think the leaks cause the quick pressure-drop after cut-out. With leaks or no leaks, they all seemed to stabilize at 130 psi. If any of you had seen this with your compressor, please share your thoughts/solutions."

Third time could be the charm!,March 16, 2008
By lovetools
"First time regulator is stuck, returned to Sears. Second time, assembled compressor at Sears Merchandise Pickup parking lot. Regulator OK. Felt someone watchime me. Turned around to see Sears employee observing my assembly. This time belt making loud sound. Noticed motor mount is not parallel/skewed to pump. Pressure relief tube leaking air and oil. Returned to Sears. Third time, assembled again at parking lot to make sure everything looks ok. Motor mount looks ok but still making fan belt sound similar to noise you hear from cars with squeaking fan belts. Pressure relief tube still leaking air. Then tube popped out from the fitting making loud air leak sound. Called Sears repair and they sent me a new pressure relief tube and 2 nut sleeve assemblies. Received in a week, installed and no more leaks. Noticed belt wasn't seated properly in V grooves on pulley. Reseated and still making sound. 2008 catalog misprint showing 8.6cmf @40psi. However it only shows 7.4cfm @40 psi on compressor tank and in 2009 catalog. Needed this for a spray gun. After a few passes on the gun, compressor turns on to catchup. Have a 20 amp circuit to garage. Compressor doesn't trip breaker. Best to remove quick disconnect coupler, install ball valve then connect coupler to it. Takes about 4 minutes to fill up tank. Much quieter than my Harbor Freight compressor. So far best compressor I've had. Wish they had a bigger tank for this."

Powerful and Quiet Compressor,February 19, 2008
By tooltraderfrom Cleveland, OH
"I have had this compressor for over six months now and use it all the time. I have owned three compressors and this is by far the best I have ever used. I did a lot of research into buying one and this is the quietest one you can get (I listened to a lot of them). A lot has to do with it being oil lubricated. Oiless compressors are very loud. It is also very powerful. I use it several times a week and sometimes for extended periods and it has had no problems. I forgot to drain it when I whent on vacation for two weeks and it still 130lbs of pressure in it. It only lost 20 pounds in two weeks! I use it to run a die grinder (90psi) and it keeps up perfectly with it. It is very quiet as well you can easily work next to it all day long, even carry a conversation on next to it. Just follow the break in directions very well. I am extremely pleased with this compressor."

"I have been looking for a good home compressor for several months. This is the least expensive belt drive unit I could find. It runs fine on the 15A GFI circut in my garage. It has not blown the circut breaker even once. It is very quiet, and does not leak down when not running. Works good!"
