My Favorite Tool! (Toy?), December 7, 2007

"I bought the 16Gal Wet/Dry Vac w/blower in Dec 06 just before moving into a new house- thinking it would be nice to have a utility vac for indoor/outdoor use, car cleaning etc. It quickly became a lifesaver as our basement flooded and I was able to quickly clean out the place with the strong suction and usefool tool assortment. The detachable blower acts as a nice "dryer" by just setting it on a floor without attachments. It will dry about a 2x5 space in 5-10 minutes, and I've left the blower on for hours without any trouble.

The detachable "blower" is a cool funtion and is quite powerful- great for blowing leaves around, out of gutters etc.

The 16Gallon capacity is just right. When full of water, it's quite heavy to lift up to a sink etc. There is a removable plug to drain outside or into a floor drain to make that easier.

This Fall (07) I purchased the optional gutter cleaning kit and easily cleaned out my gutters. With my existing vac assortment, the gutter pack allows me to reach heights of 10-15 feet above ground, so I can reach most spots just standing on the ground. I share it with my neighbors and am a local hero with that little $20 add-on.

This December 07, the Vac was again called into service as we got another "storm of the century" in Seattle. Again clearing water and blowing dry- hours of continuous operation without trouble.

Like many Sears products, this item cycles in and out of sales pricing. I bought mine at a great price, well below the standard list price today, so if you can wait a bit...you might be able to catch a great deal; but if you can't, I would say it's worth the full $120.

"Was really hesitant to buy the product based on earlier reviews, but have always had outstanding service from sears in regards to returns and repair. Have now used both the vacuum and blower functions of this shop-vac, and found them to both work incredibly. Have recently moved into a new house into a windy subdivision that is predominantly sand. As you can imagine sand is in both the garage and my vehicles. Vacuum was great inside the garage and vehicle cleanup. The blower was awesome in cleaning up the driveway. No hardware problems to date, but I know Sears will stand behind it if I do.

This vacuum is a must have for the handyman!!

Wet/Dry Vac, May 9, 2007

"We left our pool up all winter and spring without a cover. We used the wet/dry vac to clean it out. It was fabulous. It cleaned out the water, slime, leaves, etc. and left the beautiful white pool lining without any holes or scratches. I also used it when my daughter had her floors sanded and there was sawdust all over her house. It just sucked up all of the dust and with the attachments, we were able to reach high places and dust the walls. I would highly recommend this product."

Switch broke, only 8 mos old, June 1, 2009
By dissatisfiedcust from Central, IL

"This is ok in cleaning up water (a bit clunky). We bought the pump, which helps. The on/off switch just broke...I will never buy another craftsman...should have stuck with a real ShopVac!"

Combination a pleasure!, April 29, 2009
By Administration from Sunapee, NH

"At the request of my wife I had to replace the old Wet-Dry Vac that I had for over 25 years. This new combination unit is a great and versatilily machine with the added blower power. Living in New Hampshire we encounter a great deal of snow that melts in our insulated garage. The sand on the roads also accumulates on the cars so that is deposited on the floor of the garage.

With the new larger and more powerful equipment I am able to remove the water and blow the sand out of the garage. With the useful attachments I am able to address many other areas that can be cleaned with this handy Vac.

A+++ Wet Dry Vac, April 7, 2009
By Tster from Seattle, WA

"I got sick and tired of using my friends wet/dry vac which basically blew the dirt back out once it got vacuumed. Well this vacuum doesn't do that at all. It's the best one I've ever used. Very strong suction and the filter keeps the dirt inside the canister. I can't wait to show everyone how much dirt I vacuumed up. It puts the fun back into vacuuming."

Okay vaccum, February 26, 2009

"The unit is okay for the price. You'd think there would be some better accessory management rather than the jumble of extensions and hoses on the base."

Craftsman 6.5 HP Wet/Dry Vac, February 20, 2009
By Anonymous from Belvidere, NJ

"I LOVE this vacuum. It took less than 5 minutes to assemble the few parts required, and it is very powerful. I have 4 dogs and needed a vacuum that could stand up to the many hairballs and toy stuffing my dogs spread everywhere. I didn't even have to sweep first (required with all other vacs)! This machine picked up everything and never once got stuck. the hose is wide enough to manage almost anything. It's a very powerful machine and there was not a spec of dust anywhere when i was through."

LOVE THIS SHOPVAC, January 10, 2009
By niksmom from Cleveland, Ohio

"I bought this for my husband for Christmas so it is fairly new but we have used it quite a bit since then! So far, it is great...we both love it! The accessories store nicely and although it is large (which we wanted), it is still easy to move and take along room to room. I read lots of reviews before making a purchase and I'm glad I chose this product!!"

Handy Tool all around, January 8, 2009
By Anonymous from Denver, Co

"So this shop vac was received as a gift. This is my own shop vac, but the choice was based on an older version of the same handy tool. The detachable blower is the most versatile part when comapred to any other shop vac. This does an excellent job cleaning out the car, drying the garage floor, cleaning around the house and other odd jobs. Some of the more useful applications are using the blower feature to force lint out of the dryer exhaust lines to prevent possible house fires. The vac and attachments also make cleaning the dryer's internal lint traps a breeze. This newer model has a few improvements over the older one that convinced me to chose a craftsman. The diffuser on the vac itself is truly a great idea. The older model I have used can be a bit of a pain if you dont watch you aim, but the diffuser takes that problem away. The hose has a positive lock attaching it to the vac and the detachable motor assembly also locks more securely into place.
All in all, A great addition to any garage or workshop.

Good Value, January 1, 2009
By fontinasomis from Simi Valley, CA

"I had to purchase this vac when my 15 year old Craftsman shop vac suffered a broken caster which was beyond repair. The new vacuum certainly has terrific power, features and attachments however, it doesn't have the same solid build quality of my old Craftsman. The blower feature works well and attaches and detaches very easily. This new vacuum has one better quality... it's much quieter!"

Excellent Shop-Vac, Excellent Price, Great Quality, November 23, 2008
By MarRine

"After having purchased and returned an inferior unit from a competitor, I decided to give this one a try. I was pleasently surprised at both the quality and performance of this unit. It comes with all the needed accessories, has a good solid feel to it and its performanc is superior to competitor models costing almost twice as much. I would not hesitate to purchase again or to recommend it to a friend. Great shop-vac all around."

as blower, won't last long, November 17, 2008
By Physicists

"This product as a great idea, nearly well executed. I loved mine for a few months. If you use it predominantly as a shop vac it's fine. Use it as a blower and you'd better only ever blow leaves in one direction. The issue is that the impeller is made of flimsy aluminum. At those very high revs, as you swing the blower around, as you have to, the gyroscopic forces on that impeller stress it. The impeller will shear off 1/2" from the axis. I can be pretty confident in predicting that because it happened to me twice.

How twice? When the rigid one broke, short both a vac and a blower, I went and bought a Craftsman. When that broke within months, I recognized the identacle impeller on taking that one apart too.

I presume Home Depet/Rigid re-brands Craftsman items or they have a common manufacturer. It was opportunistic of both companies to make the motor a detachable blower, but they should have re-engineered the impeller for the different manner of use. Pity. Great idea but like a chain is as strong as the weakest link, with that flimsy impeller I have 32 gallons of landfill and a story to tell.

worth every $ spent, October 31, 2008
By thevacman

"I tried this vac at Sears & was amazed by the power & quiet operation. 1 nice thing is that I can use a filter bag for mess-free dirt disposal & keep cartridge filter cleaner. However, the latches are weak & the housing & tank don't stay together. Its a fine vac but I wish it came with a longer & more durable hose, a HEPA filter instead of the single-ply filter which can't filter fine dust & allergens; & a stainless steel tank which is more durable than plastic. It should also come with 1 1/4" tools like Shop Vac does--they offer 1 1/4" & 2 1/2" together on their vacs & a LIFETIME WARRANTY like Ridgid does. But it works like a champ depite these minor flaws on this vac. There should be filter bags for capturing allergens (HEPA) the drywall bags are OK but don't capture pollen & pet dander (I use the vac for vacing leaves from patio & sidewalk after blowing into a pile) IT'S A WONDERFUL WORK-SAVER! Now I can get rid of the rake, broom, & trash bags?--this vac does the job of many tools. At least I'll have more space in my shed since I'll toss the rake, broom, leaf blower since there jobs are done by only 1 tool--the shop vac!"

Just one flaw, July 5, 2008
By jvanibm from Northborough, MA

"A great vac... but, as usual with plastic equipment, some things are not sturdy enough. In this case, the studs that hold the screws that attach the red plastic handle on the blower snapped off too easily. It's repairable with a little effort. Seems the people who design with plastic don't really test the result: you can't expect a 3/8 inch piece of plastic to be a sturdy anchor for a handle. Other than that, it's been a really useful tool. The on-board tool storage is a nice feature."

It Sucks!, March 21, 2008
By PilotBob from Atlanta, GA

"I bought the 16 Gal Vac because it was on sale and I needed a new one. However, I never imagined how well it worked.
I have an older home that I am remodeling. The latest project was re-tiling a Bath. Demolition and dust were not a problem for this monster. Just aim the hose near the broken grout and concrete board, it's gone. And the dust does NOT get in the rest of the house.
Tie it into your shop vaccuum system for the saws; again, dust is not a problem and clean up is not needed. The vac does the work. I just have to empty it every once in a while.
I had to pull some wire so I used it to suck the rope through the conduit. Had the pull rope threaded and the cable ready to pull in about 15 minutes.
All together, this is a great product and I can highly recommend it to anyone that needs a powerful vaccuum with a great blower to boot.

Very good product, but NO lifetime warranty, February 24, 2008
By Islander33 from DFW, TX

"I've own this vac for almost 8 years. Just recently the vac began to make some really loud noises like metal coming apart. After taking the motor assembly apart, I noticed the aluminum cirle fan which provides the air/suction had literaly gave way.
After 7+ years of always working, this weak flaw had enough. It's too bad Craftsman only provides a 1 year warranty for their vacs and not lifetime as they do for their tools.
Today I went and purchased a Ridgid WD 1665 for a replacement. I'd rather had craftsman replace this motor which was a wear/tear issue. But no luck!
We'll see how Ridgid holds up with their lifetime warranty.
